🇳🇬 INDEPENDENCE DAY BUT WHAT ARE WE CELEBRATING?

Why do we celebrate Independence Day?

Is it freedom?

Is it electricity that reaches every home?
Is it employment and opportunities for the young?
Is it good roads and working infrastructure?
Is it security that gives every citizen peace of mind?
Is it an economy that allows ordinary people to live with dignity?

Or are we simply celebrating the day Nigeria became politically independent, while still asking ourselves what true independence should mean in the lives of ordinary Nigerians?

Independence should be more than a date on the calendar. It should be a vision, a Nigeria where citizens can dream, work, create, build families and live with dignity without constantly struggling for the basics.

Gbana People is not just a song. It is a reflection of the questions many Nigerians carry in their hearts.

The vision is not to reject Nigeria.
The vision is to imagine a better Nigeria.

A Nigeria where independence is not only remembered in history, but experienced in everyday life.

Today, I celebrate more than my birthday. I celebrate the journey. 🎶

Another year of life. Another chapter of dreams, lessons, failures, growth, and music.

My journey with music has never been a straight road. From the early days of finding my sound, experimenting with different ideas, writing songs from life experiences, to slowly discovering the kind of artist I truly want to become it has been a journey of becoming.

There were moments I questioned myself. Moments when music felt like a dream too difficult to hold onto. But somehow, I kept coming back to it.

Because music is life for me

From the songs that carried my struggles, to the songs that carried my hopes, every chapter has left something behind.

Today, I look at where I started, where I am, and EVERYTHING IS OKAY.

I may not have reached every destination I once dreamed about, but I’m still here.
Still creating.
Still dreaming.
Still learning.
Still making music.
And that, to me, is worth celebrating.

Five years.
Two photographs.
One journey that is still being written.

The person in the 2021 picture had dreams, questions, uncertainty and a love for music. The person in the 2026 picture carries some of the same dreams but with more stories, more scars, more lessons and a deeper understanding of why the music matters.

Music has been an up-and-down journey for me especially coming from Africa, where pursuing a dream can sometimes feel like a fight to simply survive.
‎
‎There are days when you question everything. Days when life becomes overwhelming, when circumstances make you wonder if your dreams are still worth holding onto. But somehow, through all the uncertainty, music keeps bringing me back to myself.
‎
‎ Music is keeping me alive.
‎ It gives me a reason to create, to feel, to express myself, and to believe that my life has a purpose beyond just surviving. For me, music is not only about entertainment. It is about being human. It is about telling stories that people can feel, connecting with emotions we sometimes struggle to put into words, and reminding ourselves that there is still something beautiful worth living for.

Music has never been just about making songs.
It is the sound of a generation trying to explain itself.

For me, the journey has been about discovering where I belong in that history not by trying to sound like everyone else, but by slowly discovering a sound, a feeling and a language that feels genuinely mine.
