South across the Colorado Plateau in its entirety. There’s a shallow coating of snow on the landscape. It’s a cruel region of sand, naked stone, and sage plains. After a handful of hours we come upon a rich mudstone expanse, a shadeless empire. The Painted Desert. It’s late and the sun set hours ago. It’s time to rest. First light illuminates a green escarpment in the distance. The Mogollon rim, a temperate sierra. Deserts on either side, a great divider. Unseasonably dry, its stands of Ponderosa Pine await the first real snow of winter. On the other side we’d be greeted by another desert. This one hotter, dryer, but more diverse than any other in the world. The Sonoran Desert. A scrubby land of agave, palm, and cacti. A place marked by Carnegia Gigantea, the Saguaro. The Pacific Northwest is nice, real nice. Just getting back from summer camp 2023. Enjoyed getting out on a long trip with @lgbentley, it’s been a while since we had. We met up with @alex19perz and our first pursuit was a mega push into the Olympics to climb Mt. Olympus. It was around 45mi with 7,500ft of vert roundtrip. We made it 18mi on the first day to Glacier Meadows(apparently the Park Service deems this impossible, but we got it done!). Cruised up the Blue Glacier to the false summit and finally to the proper summit around 10am on day 2. From there we headed down, cleaned up camp and pushed to the next camp on the Hoh river. Day 3 we were pretty worked but Leer went full locomotive and kept the pace solid the rest of the way out. We chilled on the beach that afternoon. Good times! Also, going from a legitimate rainforest to a glacier is a wild experience. Would recommend. by @braxtona_38
