BRCJ30 - Vegas (Part II): The Scavenger Hunt. Las Vegas is endlessly fascinating to me—a place that defies convention and wears its contradictions boldly. Architects Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown captured the spirit of this city in Learning from Las Vegas, a book that reshaped architectural thinking by asking us to reconsider what we value in design and culture. In it, they turn their attention to the Strip’s neon signs and ostentatious façades—not to mock them, but to understand them—revealing that even the most unexpected places hold meaning if we care to look. They criticize the self-serious minimalism of modern architecture and advocate for a renewed embrace of ornamentation, historical reference, and pop culture—a visual language that is unpretentious, accessible, and rich with life. They urge us to look again—not at the refined and restrained, but at the loud, the layered, and the unapologetically bold. Through this lens, the Las Vegas Strip becomes a vibrant classroom, a living tapestry of signs and symbols where the everyday becomes profound. Neon lights and oversized marquees, once dismissed as gaudy, are recast as cultural hieroglyphs, each one telling a story about who we are and what we desire.Their lesson is simple but poignant: beauty and meaning can be found in the overlooked, the everyday, and the strange. Learning from Las Vegas invites us to embrace complexity and contradiction rather than resist it. It challenges us to see the world anew—not just the architecture around us, but the people and experiences we might otherwise pass by. The Scavenger Hunt offered a glimpse into how I see the world—a world where beauty hides in the overlooked and forgotten corners, where meaning shimmers in the spaces others pass by. It provided a playful invitation to pause, look closer, and discover the quiet wonders that so often go unnoticed. by @brcjones

BRCJ30 - Vegas (Part I): I have a hypothesis that hiding all around us is an overwhelming abundance of love, beauty, and joy. I believe it flows through us like water does the Earth—in some places as apparent as an ocean or waterfall; in others, it hides in the cracks and crevices. I hunt for this abundance like a pioneer in a gold rush: every place I go, with open eyes and a curious mind, I scratch away at dusty corners to search for pools of this beauty that may be hiding just beneath the surface. For this birthday, I wanted to plan an event that was not just a celebration of time passed, but an offering of this lens through which I see a world full of splendor. With the help of @annakuchera, I designed a game that would test my hypothesis among those I hold most dear to me: a Scavenger Hunt to find the strangest and most wonderful oddities hiding in a city defined by spectacle. This game sent five teams on a mad chase across Sin City, solving riddles and performing tasks to gain access to the next adventure. I could not have foreseen the lengths they would go to place themselves within these unexpected scenes of wonder and grotesque displays of beauty — visions I will never forget. But, the results of this experiment were conclusive: this abundance flows easily—given you create the right conditions for it, with those who choose to be open to it. Thank you to all of you who showed up to pause, look closer, and discover the quiet wonders that so often go unnoticed. In a time when so much feels fragile, finding beauty in the cracks brings me an unexpected sense of solace, and I hope it did the same for you. ✨ by @brcjones

DO I NEED AN ARCHITECT? CAN I AFFORD ONE? if you are a fire survivor and are looking at a ground up build, YES YOU NEED AN ARCHITECT. "Standard rate" could range from 8-25% of total construction costs depending on scope and firm. Some Studios are offering "design light" packages (including us to make things a little more confusing but hopefully helpful 🙃) idk we're all just doing our best to be in service but try to keep the lights on for the next few years ya know Thank you: @brcjones @aaha_studio @la.lland @_matterstudio Do we like this content or should we go back to what hot rich girls are buying? by @brcjones

we’re in discussion with a number of our architect friends about how rebuilding efforts and it occurred to use that a quick crash course in ARCHITECTURE 101 might be helpful for homeowners out there who are approaching their rebuild too if you have specific questions drop them below because maybe we make this a weekly thing with PROFESSOR JONES by @brcjones
