⚽️ MEET THE COACH ⚽️

My name is Kenan Leber, founder of KL Soccer Development. I was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, and my soccer journey began the same way many of my players’ journeys start today—playing recreational soccer and simply falling in love with the game.

From there, I progressed through PISA and the Wilmington Hammerheads before earning a spot on the ECNL team, where I spent the final five years of my youth career. Throughout that time, I consistently invested in individual training, which played a major role in my development as a player.

My playing career has taken me through Division I soccer at Gardner-Webb University, Patrick & Henry Community College (NJCAA), and Barton College (NCAA Division II), while also competing at the semi-professional level in both the NPSL and USL2 with Port City FC.

While I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had as a player, what has shaped me most has been the coaches, teammates, and lessons I’ve encountered along the way. Soccer has played a major role in shaping who I am today—not just as a player, but as a person. The game taught me discipline, accountability, resilience, work ethic, confidence, and how to handle both success and adversity.

At KL Soccer Development, my goal extends far beyond developing better soccer players. I want to help young athletes build the same qualities that soccer has given me—qualities that carry over into school, work, relationships, and life. The values learned through the game can create successful athletes, but more importantly, successful people.

Technical development, game understanding, and athletic performance are all priorities in my training, but so is building a strong mentality. In my experience, mindset is often the difference between players who reach their potential and those who don’t.

As a Wilmington native, it’s a privilege to give back to the soccer community that helped shape me. I look forward to helping the next generation of players grow both on and off the field.

Speed in soccer is about much more than just “being fast.” True game speed comes from efficient sprint mechanics, explosive acceleration, body control, and the ability to produce force in the right positions. ⚡️

Small details like forward lean, arm drive, posture, and projection make a HUGE difference when it comes to creating separation, winning races to the ball, recovering defensively, and reducing injuries. Better movement creates better athletes — and better athletes become better soccer players.

Huge thank you and shoutout to @atsc_solutions for teaching me so much about sprint mechanics, strength training, athletic performance, and injury prevention. I truly believe they are the best of the best when it comes to developing athletes the right way. 💪⚽️
