Most people miss the best part of this hike 👀 About a 2 hour drive from Brisbane, and it’s a circular loop (not out and back) so you’re never walking the same section twice. Just under 5km, 561m elevation, it took us around 3.5 hours. It’s sedan-friendly on a dirt road, but download the AllTrails map before you go, parts of the track aren’t marked.☝🏽 Fun fact: the gorge is home to a rare, nearly pure stand of piccabeen palms. Narrow gorges like this one create a specific microclimate. Shaded, consistently humid, protected from fire and wind - which piccabeens are apparently especially suited to, so they end up outcompeting everything else and dominating almost the entire gorge. Interwesting 🤓 Ngl this one will test you, especially the knees on the way back down. I wouldn’t recommend it as your first hike, but if you’re after a bit of a challenge then this one’s so much fun! Best hike view in QLD 👀 If you’ve been thinking about doing a hike around the Bris/GC area then definitely check out The Steamers! About a 2.5 hour drive from Brisbane in Main Range National Park. It’s a 10km out and back trail and it took us around 4 hours to complete! You definitely need a 4x4 to get out to this one as there’s a bunch of creek crossings and muddy tracks. Make sure to download the trail map on @alltrails before you head out (there’s SOS only once you get there) - I would actually use the “Get directions” feature on AllTrails to get the coordinates of the trail head because normal maps took us to the wrong spot & we had to figure it out with no service 😂 The first hill climb is a pretty brutal slog with some really loose rock sections so honestly be really careful there because we fell on our asses like 4 times. After that it flattens out as you walk alongside some really cool cliff faces and caves. One last short climb to the top after that you’ll be absolutely spoiled with one of the best views in SE QLD ⛰️ Don’t forget to pack at least 2L of water and yummy snacks for the top 🍊🥪 📍 The Steamers, Main Range National Park #hike #queensland #granolagirl @visitbrisbane @goldcoast by @breannahurrst
