I really did wait a year to post this😂

Originally, I decided to get my MFA in screenwriting to supplement my career as an actor. (Because in this economy, I don’t know how to be successful without being a multi-hyphenate) I wanted to have a hand in how stories are being told, since it not only directly impacts my community, but because, at least in my eyes, society relies on storytelling to fill in the blanks of what’s missing.

There are so many thoughts and feelings I had coming out of my thesis and heading into graduation . Am I being authentic in my storytelling or too authentic? Will those in and out of my shoes be able to relate to my stories? Will my stories help others of their struggles? I was filled with so many ideas I felt led to begin, and that opportunity was just waiting for me to finish my degree.

Now that it’s been a year, I can say it hasn’t gotten any easier. I don’t have my dream job, or any industry job. I haven’t written a new script since my thesis, and the black hole that is networking seems redundant and ridiculously competitive.

~but~

I have the best support that always cheering me on, the friends I’ve made from my program are fighting tooth and nail to make room for me in professional settings, there have been many professionals who have lent their time and a lending hand to help me, and God still speaks volumes and offers confirmation in what I’m doing though everything feels like it’s a mess. I am so grateful. I pray whoever feels stuck feels less alone and full of purpose. It’s not over yet. Thank you to those who’ve been by my side along the way 🤍 oh, and more to come 🤭
