After serving in Australia 🇦🇺 for 2 years as a missionary for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Aden Hacking is coming home! “Let him rest, heaven-blessed, Bring him home.” Please join us in welcoming Aden home on July 31st at BWI airport if you are able to make it. Then come hear him give his Homecoming talk at our church on August 9th at 10 am with an open house to follow at 12 pm in the church gym. All are welcome! I also need to share before end of this year the 17th birthday of our second child, our first daughter, Addelyn Elise. Addy, who now will not go by her given name Addelyn, as she says we only use it when she is in trouble, and she even went to the effort to change her name on her high school records. This girl is our Tom boy, she loves music, dancing and singing, loves Miraculous Ladybug and is a super fan of Ross Lynch. Addy Belle, our valiant special spirit, who we prayed for, waited for and pled with God to bring here to this earth to add to our little family and bring more joy to our lives. I think Heavenly Father was waiting and may have been testing us, as if to say, “are you sure you are ready for her? Are you certain you think you are ready to handle what I am about to send you?”
Oh what a wonderful adventure these 17 years have been. You have taught us so much and we have learned so many things from being your earthly parents and trying our hardest to do for you what we can in this fragile existence. You are a mighty miracle in every way, beating the odds in so many ways, continually pushing forward and making the best of your life with the abilities you have. This year has been an especially challenging one for you as you have had to give up things you loved so you can work extra hard to keep up with your educational progress and plan to graduate from high school with a diploma with your same age peers. We have tried to do our best to help you by learning all things Neurology, Endocrinology, special needs, inclusion, acceptance and Neurodivergence. Addy has conquered epilepsy from infantile spasms, seizures from a stroke she had in utero. She recovered from many surgeries hemispherectomy (brain surgery to remove the right brain causing her seizures and to cure her epilepsy) eye surgery for strabismus and amblyopia (lazy eye and misalignment), and many other surgeries to help with physical disabilities. She has been diagnosed with so many different things that we have learned more from and tries to help her with throughout her life. Continued in comments. by @brendalynh

I am a month late, but I cannot let this year go by without recognizing the 20th birthday of our first born in the wilderness. Our first and only son, Aden Derrick Hacking celebrated his 20th birthday this November 2024. We were married young but waited to start our family while we worked and went to school full time to pursue our degrees. In January of 2004, we were both very busy in the culminating years of our college studies, but we could not ignore the spirit whispering, which we can only describe as what felt like a “lightning bolt”, that we were to start our family now. As I was about to begin my student teaching and final semester of college, Chad was commuting to the U of U from Orem daily to work toward his degree and we both worked as much as we could. We acted on faith and soon discovered we were expecting our first child. We were overjoyed and couldn’t wait to share the news with our families. At seven weeks, I was spotting heavily and my doctor said that I was having a miscarriage. We were devastated. A few weeks later, I had an overwhelming spiritual experience that gave me the impression that I was still pregnant and that I was carrying a strong and healthy baby boy. When we went back to the doctor, they were concerned because I was still pregnant but I had been spotting for a long time. They sent me to a high risk pregnancy doctor for the rest of my pregnancy. Being pregnant with our son that year was the biggest blessing to us that we could have ever received as we went through a difficult tragedy in our family. Looking forward to the gift from our Heavenly Father we would be receiving that November, was the only thing that kept us going and helped to ease some of the pain and suffering from the family trauma and grief we were going through. Where’s Elder Hacking? (like where’s Waldo? but missionary version). Aden was spotted among the crowd of missionaries who were serving state side as visa waiters. They all flew on Tuesday to LAX to fly to AUS together. Hint: look for the Indiana Jones hat! Pic 1 & 2.

Aden made it safely to Australia 🇦🇺! He texted us that he got there and Sister Debbie Schwarting also texted and said she met him and also sent some pics too. The 3rd pic is training with the new missionaries. Debbie Schwarting I can’t thank our Heavenly Father enough that he called you, one of my favorite young women’s leaders and Cascade 2nd Ward Family members and amazing nurse, to the same mission as our son Aden. It certainly calms this mommas heart to know he will be watched over and kept an eye on the next year and a half. ❤️ by @brendalynh
