After 4 years without a lack of effort, I finally caught my first redfish. Something about sight fishing them tailing through the marsh made that extra special. Maybe I can assimilate to saltwater fishing after all…
Big shoutout to the captain @dshef91 for taking me on his boat, pushing me around, and putting up with a lot of my shitty spot jobs, and a lot more of my shitty casts 😂 taken in Charleston, South Carolina by @brendansander

Roadless areas are important to help protect undisturbed ecosystems, and now they need your help. The USDA has proposed a plan to rescind the 2001 Roadless Rule in the name of corporate profits and resource extraction.

This isn’t just a problem for folks out west. Forty states have inventoried Roadless areas on their National Forest lands, and South Carolina is one of them. Head to the link in the bio and make your voice heard! 🔗 taken in South Carolina by @brendansander

Gap days (day 3, 5, and 6) were spent traveling, relaxing, and goofing off. Let our dogs cool off in the Arkansas River downtown Salida, had lunch and saw Aspen in the summer for my first time, and enjoyed dinner and great company in Vail, where Jon used to live.

We also got to do a little sport climbing that was interrupted by a lot of rain. The crags we hit were The Puoux near Glenwood Springs, and Death Valley in the Clear Creek Canyon. When we went to climb in the canyon a second time I discovered I lost my climbing shoes somehow 🥴 taken in Colorado by @brendansander

The Crestone Traverse - Sangre de Cristo Range

For the first climb of our Colorado trip the boys linked up Crestone Peak ➡️ Crestone East ➡️ Crestone Needle to complete the Crestone traverse for Jake and I’s first Fourteeners.

Extreme exposure during the traverse with a 5.2 crux section (The Bulge) followed by two very exposed class 4 sections (The Knife-Edge and The Headwall.) Overall the rock was super solid and it made for some very fun climbing.

Descending the loooooong class 4 gully of The Needle kicked all of our asses. So did coming from sea level to over 14,000ft in less than 24 hours. GoPro of the climbing coming soon.

I think the final stats were over 17 miles walked and around 7,500 feet of vertical. Good thing we started at 3am… taken in Crestone Needle by @brendansander

If so, come see SCBHA board member @brendansander at the 843 Flies shop for open table fly tying this Friday (8/7) at 7pm. Bring your own vice, tools, and materials, or get with the guys at @843flies when you come in to purchase your own setup!

You are welcome to bring your own adult beverages as well, just consume responsibly. We hope to see yall there! taken in Charleston, South Carolina by @brendansander

Weatherman lied 🤥

Supposed to see 2ft at 9 seconds and rode out looking at 3ft at 3s… still sent it anyways and took two greenhorns offshore for the first time. Two fish on the first two drifts.

Next time we will leave the marina before 2pm and have a pile (of either empty beer cans and/or fish) 😂 taken in Charleston, South Carolina by @brendansander

A few shots from a couple weeks back. Shannon and I went upstate to camp and volunteer with @chattoogarivertu and @scdnr on the brook trout restoration project. Got to do some electrofishing to remove the invasive rainbow trout from Wright’s Creek to make room for some native brookies. Can’t wait to get back up there to do it again! taken in Jocassee Gorges by @brendansander

Fetching some fresh oysters in the FV Little Debbie with @jacobelsbury, and then tearing her apart to start her facelift. The transom was rotted out and had the aluminum looking like Swiss cheese.

Just waiting on the welder to get her in the shop and welded up before I redeck her, build a rod locker/gun box, and get her painted and wired up with all the electronics. Big things coming for the old hag. taken in Folly Beach, South Carolina by @brendansander
