“Pinky Movements” — Out Now (link in bio)

The momentum is officially unstoppable as My Mistress fulfills the grand promise of their ambitious four-month campaign with the release of their definitive new EP, Pinky Movements. While early chapters like “State of Falling” and “Vicissitudes” highlighted specific elements of their heavy foundation, this release marks a landmark shift into a true sonic democracy. The record bridges the raw tension of their previous material with a bold new direction, offering a textural and political evolution of their earlier track, “More like Sheep.”

Inspired by the fragile bubbles built by the ruling class, the song takes aim at elite greed and the corrupted American dream by exposing powerful “wolves” as sheep chasing excess. As the heavy instrumentation shifts, the track serves as an ominous warning to those hiding behind their wealth that a restless populace is ready for change. It stands as a powerful rallying cry, proving that prideful opulence will only line the greedy up for an inevitable reckoning.

GEAR/CAREER APPRECIATION POST:

There’s a lot of perks to working in a fun creative environment like a recording studio. Even when the songs are serious, a lot of the day is sitting around making jokes.

However the lines between a creative idea and someone doing a bit can get a little blurry sometimes. You don’t want to squash someone’s idea by simply laughing at it because you think they were making a joke. If anything the best thing you can do is go along with it, because then you are either prepared for a new creative adventure, or that’s just good improv and you’re committing to the bit.

That’s why this morning on my to do list, I made sure to remember to bring my stylophone to the studio (thanks for the gift @gunnarwidowski), give it fresh batteries, and have taken the time to make sure it’s tuned properly*.

*as in tune as these things can be🤣

So today there will either be some fun silly synth sounds, or a hearty chuckle because of the effort to be prepared to record a thing that kind of sounds like an electric kazoo.

Side note: the stylophone is the low synth sound in Space Oddity, so it can be just as much business as it is a toy.

That’s the joys of creating. by @brendonsandersaudio

“Part V” — Out Now

The momentum is unstoppable. My Mistress keeps their promise moving forward with “Part V,” marking the highly anticipated third single in their ambitious four-month release campaign.

While previous tracks highlighted specific elements of the band’s signature heavy foundation, “Part V” breaks entirely new ground. For the first time, every single member has contributed their personal musical style equally to the writing process. The result is a true sonic democracy—a track where individual artistic DNA fuses seamlessly into a unified, powerful whole

Our new song is out now everywhere you stream music. This song is the catalyst for the other singles we are scheduled to release in the coming months. We really grew as a band while writing this song. It started a new path musically as well as new ideology for what we want My Mistress to become.

This is the firework display I get to see every morning. Rather than the normal fireworks that celebrate the ending of a year long chapter, this light show is a harbinger of creating new chapters. Every time this console powers on, it dances in anticipation, knowing that it will be an important tool in the lives of those who make music with us @the_bubble_studios.

It’s important to look back and enjoy the past accomplishments and hardships overcome, and the new year is a good reminder to do so. However, I’m more similar to this console powering up and dancing towards whatever comes next.

A lot of great music ran through this console and those speakers in 2025. Discovering what music is around the corner is what I truly look forward to celebrating.

Thank you to all of the wonderful artists in years past for placing your trust in me, @chrisfrenchiesmith, and @the_bubble_studios to help realize your artistic visions. Thank you to all the wonderful artists in the days and years to come that will take a chance on us for the first time, or chose us as team mates once again. by @brendonsandersaudio

I work in the recording studio and I’m constantly listening to recorded music. However, nothing compares to the intoxicating feeling of live performances. The entire history of this industry I’m taking part in is rooted in the experience of a musician performing a piece in front of an audience. Even from a commercial stand point, the origins of buying and selling music was the purchasing of sheet music so songs could be recreated. In other words, your papa on the piano was your iPod.

I love the creature comforts of the recording studio. Undo, do another take, edit, mix, create sounds that weren’t (and possibly couldn’t) be performed by the musician. To me though, all of those tools are simply means to try to catch lightning in a bottle so that the listener can have the same emotional transformation that happens when witnessing a live performance.

Concerts are where my love for music turned into an addiction. So while I feed those cravings every day in my work, there is no high like feeling the raw energy and emotion of amplified sound while surrounded by anywhere between a single soul and fifteen thousand other people feeling it with you.

It’s one of the few positive addictions I gravitate towards and I don’t feed it nearly enough. When I do get a chance to, though, it’s hard for me not to get slightly emotional and sentimental before the first downbeat even hits.

Thanks @inoha_band for letting me tag along to watch yall shred all over the country. Thanks @chrisfrenchiesmith for being a leader and an enabler of all things mind-blowing rock n roll. Hard work never felt so fun. taken in South Side Ballroom by @brendonsandersaudio

GEAR APPRECIATION POST

Taking a moment to highlight the pieces that inspire me on my journey as a participant in the artistic process.

The @shure 520DX aka “Green Bullet” harmonica microphone.

Two attributes in a piece of gear that excite me more than most anything else, character and utility. If something sounds particularly unique, that’s a win. If something can be used in a myriad of applications, that’s a win. A microphone that has both? That feels like having Batman’s utility belt on.

The Green Bullet makes me feel like Batman. A lot of other knowledge, skill, and practice is required to be Batman, but life wouldn’t be nearly as cool if I couldn’t toss a Batarang around at any given opportunity.

I will put the green bullet on anything. Rarely as a first resort or as the main microphone capturing a sound, but instead to be a strong supporting character. A few applications that stand out in my memory:

Some lofi crispiness to accompany the clarity of a U67 when recording vocals with @thetoadies.

A counterintuitive part of a stereo acoustic guitar recording for @brianwolffmusic where it gets a mellow capture of the neck while a condenser (also Shure) is positioned for a full range capture of the body.

Also on vocals, but instead of straight to preamp, it hits an @orangeamplifiers tiny terror that feeds into the @uaudio OX cabinet simulator. Because why shouldn’t @knetx_ vocals sometimes sound like a guitar being recorded in a large room. (No photo here because I’m better at recording audio than I am at thinking to take photos)

Finally, and on too many recordings to even specify, haphazardly tossing it into the porthole of a kick drum to be an additional tasty “kick in” mic. Bonus points if it hits a distortion pedal on its way out.

I love this microphone, so much so it’s the only mic I’ve considered getting a tattoo of, and I consider it often. Maybe one day I’ll actually record a harmonic with it🤘🏻💜 by @brendonsandersaudio

It’s that time of year again! This Friday, @the_bubble_studios and its extended family are ready to blow some minds. It’s a day I always hold dear because it’s good to look back on the hard work that these artists put into their craft. As a part of the production process, I’m always surprised how fast a bond is formed between myself and the artists. Mutual goals will do that I guess. So not only is it a chance for you to come see talented artists play killer tunes, you can see my FRIENDS be amazing and hopefully make them your friends as a well. by @brendonsandersaudio

As a non musician, the studio and artists’ experiences when they chose us to capture their creations is my artistic expression. I take it very seriously and feel an immense amount of pride from my role in helping others with their creative process.

Lot of aches and bruises, restless nights, and moments of physical and mental madness go into moving and setting up a recording studio. It’s an undertaking that is never truly finished and filled with endless “what ifs” and “we should have’s”.

That being said, having @inoha_band in to work on their next saga as a band is filling me with purpose. I woke up today incredibly sore, brain foggy, and honestly full of self doubt. The second we got a take recorded and listened back through the speakers, all of that washed away.

Thanks @chrisfrenchiesmith for your guidance and faith in me to help make this studio somewhere people can comfortably express themselves. You didn’t ever let me get too stressed or too bogged down. The amount of trust and creative freedom you gave me is not lost on me or unappreciated. You’ve got something really special with @the_bubble_studios. I’m not alone, I imagine, in the sentiment that this is a place I feel safe to grow as an artist.

SXSW is a lot of different things nowadays but one thing still holds true. There is vast ocean of talented artists and musicians who are working themselves to exhaustion to share their art with you. While you’re out enjoying the huge elaborate corporate pop ups to advertise some new show (which admittedly can be a lot of fun) remember to pop into any of the dozens of places you hear live music blasting from. You could find your new favorite artist.

Speaking of…..
Oh hey, @the_bubble_studios is having an artist showcase on Thursday March 14. I’ve been back at The Bubble for some time now and have had the honor to witness these masters of their craft turn their ideas into speakers moving air. What a jaw dropping collection of musicians all playing the same day, in the same Austin cornerstone of a location, and without it costing the audience anything. Come hang out and celebrate the Austin (and beyond) music scene with us.

With so much love,
B 🤘🏻💜🤘🏻 by @brendonsandersaudio
