What a perfectly ordinary Michigan summer spent with loads of intentionality. I’m so grateful for any ounce of normalcy because some days, I get very focused on how atypical our life feels. Adam’s chronic pain and my heightened OCD & anxiety has clouded so much of how we envisioned our current life, and we’ve spent the last year delving into a lot of hard. It’s been heavy holding all the “in between”: the loss of dreams and gratefulness for the health/happiness we do have; loving Jesus and knowing He is good and still being mad at Him sometimes; feeling full of peace one day and utterly enveloped with overwhelm another day. There is always good, and I do believe that if you look for it, you will find it. But I’m trying to remind myself that my pain is valid and real, and it’s okay to need a friend to sit in the pain and together look for that good. It’s so much of both. It’s no surprise that my closest moments with Jesus and people were felt in vulnerability where pain lives. 🤍✨ by @brennigan

“the deeper our faith, the more doubt we must endure; the deeper our hope, the more prone we are to despair; the deeper our love, the more pain its loss will bring. these are a few of the paradoxes we must hold as human beings. if we refuse to hold them in the hopes of living without doubt, despair, and pain, we also find ourselves living without hope, faith, and love.” / tyler staton by @brennigan

It’s easier for me to talk about past hard times and connect the dots to see the provision. It’s harder to invite people into the mess, to ask for help and to wonder when and from where rest will come. Our Spring was dotted with joy amidst a lot of hard. A good friend & I are reading through the Bible and I keep coming back to how while they were in their exodus, God gave the Israelites enough manna for the day. Only the one. If they hoarded it, the excess would spoil. Such a powerful exercise in trust that today’s needs will be met, today’s tasks will get done, and today, you will get through. So thankful for the joys that are getting us through. 🫶🕊️🌸 by @brennigan

Life has felt very out of control lately. I mean, I get that “control” is pretty much an illusion, but that doesn’t stop me from grasping it. In the past two months, we’ve had a family cancer diagnosis, three illnesses, a pet chicken die, and a cat currently knocking on death’s door. My OCD has been in hyperdrive, a frantic grasping to gain traction over the mess of life. Tonight as I laid down with my daughter (we all have RSV), there was nothing left for me to do for her little body. I was praying for God to come into this space. Her room, her body, these circumstances. I want healing, but ultimately I want peace in the brokenness of the life we are living. I want joy in the midst of the sorrow and the pain. And I feel it - not all the time; but in that moment in her pretty pink and bunny wallpapered room, I could feel a pouring in of His presence. I want to encourage someone who is wrestling in that space too. Something shifted last Fall for me, and I’ve been doing a lot of seeking and heart checking and setting this reminder to even myself that the hard questions and seasons can be welcomed and shift into something good. by @brennigan

oh, what a month can do. 🤍 I entered winter feeling frustrated, coming to the end of another year when my personal growth didn’t match my expectations or timeline. I forgot how slowly roots can grow, how vital they are to the plant. Everything in life lately has felt vital in deep, deep ways - I’m still seeking the fruit of them, but trying to sit contently in the quiet growth. Community, my faith, marriage and motherhood. I felt a stripping back this fall and now I’m resting in the soil, letting the quiet and recovery take precedence as the most important work. by @brennigan

Getting ready to purchase seeds for the 2026 garden (!!) & reminiscing on all the learning and growth from 2025. I installed two small & one large perennial gardens this year in addition to the annual vegetable & flower garden. I’m so grateful for our Michigan seasons. 🌱🌸🍂🌬️ The anticipation, the preparing, the hard work, the learning, the dormancy. Isla and I planted over 200 bulbs this Fall - she is glad I’m not talking about flowers all the time anymore 😂 we’re enjoying this rest while I can because Spring will be here before we know it!

I’ve felt a sadness creeping in this past week after a very full fall season. I don’t know if it’s sadness because it’s over or because it’s not exactly how I envisioned it ending. I am grateful for so much of it - another season of growth for all of us. Hoping to stop and savor whatever the holiday season entails…hopefully a lot of love, memory making, and more togetherness. by @brennigan

outside the leaves on the trees constricted slightly; they were the deep done green of the beginning of autumn. it was a sunday in september. there would only be four. the clouds were high and the swallows would be here for another month or so before they left for the south before they returned again next summer. / ali smith by @brennigan

I really feel like I’m in a season of receiving—taking whatever comes (the good, the bad, the ugly) and trusting it will work out for good, and that God will equip me to handle it. My anxiety has felt higher this summer, but so has my peace—what my friend calls radical acceptance. I’ve spent the past five years doing the hard work in therapy, reshaping my inner circle toward growth and betterment. Whether it’s the fruit of that labor or just getting older and living more life, it’s been good. This summer’s been full of swimming, gardening, Isla’s “cool car” obsession, and doing wholesome things like fruit picking, dinner, and beach combing with dear friends. Looking forward to camping later this summer, more swimming, and as of this weekend—playing with all the American Girl treasures I just found in my parent’s basement! by @brennigan

Spring at home. 🤍✨ This season is so welcomed and fruitful after the past year or so feeling like a refiner’s fire. I feel like I am learning and growing every day as a mother, wife, and friend. I don’t know how to explain the inward changes from motherhood and growing older and shifting my cares to what truly matters (I’d love chat in real life about it instead!). I know I am grounding myself every day and leaning into how Jesus would live and love both myself and those around me. Happy for sunshine. ☀️ Happy for love. 💛 by @brennigan

someday, we’ll look back on this time and wonder how we got through it. I have no idea how we’ll do it, we just had to so we did. ❤️‍🩹🕊️ by @brennigan
