FD2 BA ‘The Beautiful Ugly: Constricted in construction’

This design is inspired by animals that become trapped in plastic and other man-made materials. Their natural forms are distorted by something that restricts them, creating a powerful story of survival, adaptation, and growth.
The skirt symbolizes how society can confine individuals within expectations and social structures. A rigid, constructed shape acts as a cage, while organic forms push against it and gradually break free. Construction and nature exist in tension, representing restriction versus freedom.
Within the theme of Beautiful Ugly, beauty emerges from imperfection and struggle. The distorted shapes reflect resilience and transformation. As the silhouette evolves, the structure opens up, making space for movement, growth, and liberation.

The final form represents a body that has escaped its cage and found a new identity through the process of breaking free.
