Day one of the VHRA Hot Rod Races at Pendine was, unfortunately, a bit of a washout.

Consistent rain showers and strong winds eventually forced the organisers’ hand, with the day’s racing called off. A real shame, watching these cars stretch their legs across Pendine Sands is always something special.

But even without the racing, there’s something about seeing these machines gathered on this enormous stretch of beach that never gets old. It’s a pretty unique sight and one we’re very lucky to have right on our doorstep.

If this has got you itching to see them in action, slap Pendine Sands into the sat nav and head down today. Racing is scheduled to get underway from 10:30am, with free public spectating from the beach.

Fingers crossed the weather plays ball this time!

This ‘62 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova sat just across from our stand and we couldn’t keep our eyes off it.

When you think of classic American cars, big, bulky muscle cars probably spring to mind. The first-year Nova is a very different proposition. Compact, lightweight and considerably more understated than its younger brothers that would follow, it has a clean set of proportions that work brilliantly with Steve’s approach.

At first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking this is simply a beautifully restored Nova with a few subtle upgrades. Look a little closer, though, and there’s a lot more going on.

Under the bonnet sits an LS1 V8, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission; a serious departure from the car’s original powertrain and one that completely changes what this little Chevy is capable of. That modern drivetrain is complemented by air suspension and a carefully considered wheel and tyre setup, giving the Nova a stance that wouldn’t look out of place on a much more modern chassis.

An Audi A5 interior might be about as far from the obvious choice for a ‘62 Nova as you could get. On paper, mixing a 1960s American compact with a modern German coupe sounds like it should be a recipe for disaster. Somehow, Steve has made this work brilliantly.

And that’s really what we love about this car.

The LS1, 6-speed, air suspension, wheel setup and A5 interior aren’t there simply to tick boxes. Steve has taken components and ideas from completely different corners of the automotive world and made them work together as one cohesive build.

It’s a classic Chevy, but without being restricted by what a classic Chevy is ‘supposed’ to be.

Steve becomes the third and final winner we selected at @gravityshowuk to drive away with one of our Brentacre custom skateboards.

We have a soft spot for French hot hatches, especially those from the Golden Era. A time when lightweight, analogue performance and mechanical simplicity ruled the roost.

Sean Pendlebury’s Citroën Saxo had us turning back the clock and reminiscing about simpler times. This lightweight turbo build is exactly the kind of car that has us wondering just how capable it would be on track.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wonder for long. @project_5axo has a YouTube channel dedicated to exactly that. 👀

We were delighted to present the second of our three @gravityshowuk prizes to Sean. A seriously worthy winner, and one we’re looking forward to following.

The first of our three show winners from Gravity. 🏆

@warminator1 joins the exclusive club of Brentacre custom skate deck owners, with his incredible Type 34 Razoredge Karmann Ghia getting the @tequila.fever treatment.

No stone has been left unturned on this one. Despite knowing the car had already picked up multiple awards, as soon as we spotted this there was no way Paul was leaving without something new for his ever-growing trophy cabinet.

As it happens, @gravityshowuk clearly caught similar feelings, presenting the Razor with ‘Best Classic’ just minutes before our team did. 😂

And just like that, Gravity and the Summer Bank Holiday are behind us. What a whirlwind of a weekend. 🏁

The @gravityshowuk guys really pulled out all the stops for their 10th anniversary, bringing some of the best builds from across Europe and beyond together under one huge roof.

We had an absolute blast. Catching up with familiar faces, meeting plenty of new ones, and spending the weekend doing what we love.

A huge thank you to each and every one of you who stopped by our stand, grabbed a quote, started a new policy, took on the simulator or simply stopped for a chat and sang our praises in person. Hearing that kind of feedback directly from the people we look after means a hell of a lot to the whole team. ❤️

A special thank you to Will from @fgen_racing for keeping the simulator running throughout the weekend, our @specialistriskgroup colleagues for putting in a crazy amount of work behind the scenes and joining us for the weekend, and of course the Gravity for awarding the Escort Performance & Motorsport Award.

The historic Shelsley Walsh played host to Food&Fuel’s main course, opening the hill to show-goers for a chance to tackle the legendary 1,000 yard climb.

And tackle it they did, with plenty of style and, in most cases, a serious amount of tyre smoke. 🔥
