Introducing Ruth / Marie — a character study and first glimpse into the Protestant wife at the heart of our full-length work in progress, 𝘐 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘖𝘯 𝘉𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘧 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘺 𝘍𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳.

Through song, movement, and prayer, this solo traces a woman who spent her life on the threshold of a divided Belfast. The piece builds like a tea kettle’s invisible pressure. Come meet her for the first time.

The previous show I worked on closed abruptly in 2020 — I never had a “last show,” or, rather, didn’t realize it for what it was at the time.

It’s bittersweet to be aware of a moment’s finiteness. The last time you sing a song. The last time you move a prop. The last time you hang up your costumes. The routine of it all holds weight again, and simultaneously feels inevitable.

I remember crying after the last show for my first solo ballet role when I was 8 years old. My mom told me “This is just the beginning,” and it was.

I cried again while taking our final bow for this beautiful show. And will probably continue smiling and crying through the end of every future show. Each time, I remind myself this is just the beginning. And it always is.

Big love to the entire cast & crew of Dear Evan Hansen with @pmtmusicals And to my Murphy family, can’t wait to go on our Miracle Yoga $25,000 weekend spa getaway trip. 🩵💙🤍
