Time has flown. 🥹

This photo was taken on my very first day at @univofmaryland for my ID card back in 2024.

Today, I started my final semester at UMD. I’ll officially finish my degree in December and walk across that stage in May 2027. 🎓

I started my collegiate journey when I was 18/19 in 2011, and if life had gone according to the original plan, I would’ve graduated from CalArts years ago. But life took me from CalArts to Howard University, through circumstances that almost made me give up on finishing my degree altogether.

But I told myself that if I ever went back to school, the desire would have to come to me organically. And it did.

Now, here I am graduating with honors, a 3.9 GPA, as a Dance major with a minor in Music & Culture, AND having completed my entire UMD journey on a full scholarship.

For the first time in my collegiate experience, I was able to focus on being a student without the constant worry of how I would pay for tuition. I was given the space to truly experience college, to learn, to grow, and to become a scholar and I don’t take that for granted.

I’m grateful for God, Osun, Esu, the ancestors, my community, and my beautiful husband for loving and supporting me through this chapter.

And most of all, I’m proud of myself for never giving up. For always believing that this story would have a better resolution.

Same woman. Just evolved.

On time. On God’s time.

Essence Movement Initiative

This has been something cultivating in my thoughts, brain wavelengths, and ecosystem for a very long time.

Being a choreographer and artist is all I’ve ever really wanted to do. As I continue to grow, I’m deeply grateful for every experience that has shaped me……the highs, the lows, the lessons, and everything in between. I’m also reflecting on what it means to build a practice rooted in longevity, sustainability, collaboration, and continued exploration.

EMI was created with that in mind, and I’m incredibly proud of what it is becoming.

Thank you all for the support so far whether you’ve shared a post, joined a lab, or simply followed along. I’m excited for what’s ahead and for the future of collaboration.
