Today I had the distinct honor of eulogizing my sweet cousin, Leah.

I don’t know that I’ll ever fully have the words to describe what this day meant to me. Standing before a sanctuary filled beyond capacity was a beautiful reflection of the life Leah lived. She didn’t just know people; she loved them deeply, pointed them to Jesus, and left every life she touched better than she found it.

A few weeks ago, when Leah came home with hospice, I wrote her a letter because I needed her to know what she had meant to my life. Today, I had the privilege of reading those words aloud. It was one of the greatest honors of my life. Before I started, I did what she would’ve wanted me to do: I took a picture. Actually, I took a few pictures because the crowd was too big. She was the one who captured our memories. I promise to pick up where she left off.

My heart is shattered, but it is also so full of gratitude. Grateful that she was my cousin. Grateful that I got to grow up with her. Grateful for the example she set for all of us. And grateful that because of the hope she lived every single day, this goodbye is not forever.

I got to introduce @deann.kilpatrick to NYC and @gracieyoungman this weekend. And my heart is full. Ending the trip with @jessicavosk in her robe, in a single spotlight, with no microphone, to a sold out audience at Carnegie Hall confirmed that happy days are indeed here again. 🤍 taken in New York, New York by @brettelizabeth
