There is always more then meets the EYE.

I never cried so much in my entire life than in the past two weeks. The past two weeks have been the most challenging of my whole career, but equally the most rewarding.

And the documentary is not going to be about me, or @studiohbstaging. It’s about you and everyday choices you’re making.

Every single day, every single hour, and every single moment you face a decision there are two sides of the story. There is always, more than meets the EYE.

Soms ontstaan de mooiste portretten op momenten die je niet verwacht.

De dochter van Jan wilde graag een aantal mooie portretten van haar vader laten maken, om hem vast te leggen zoals hij nu is. Toen ik bij Jan thuis aankwam, trof ik een man vol energie, enthousiasme en levenslust.

Tijdens de fotoshoot vroeg ik Jan om naar me toe te lopen. In plaats daarvan begon hij plotseling te joggen! Het resultaat? Een heerlijk spontaan moment en een foto vol oprechte blijdschap.

Bij The Portrait Place geloven we dat mooie portretten niet alleen draaien om hoe iemand eruitziet. Het gaat om het vastleggen van iemands persoonlijkheid, uitstraling en juist die kleine momenten die iemand zo bijzonder maken.

En het mooie is: je hoeft niet altijd naar The Portrait Place te komen. Wij komen ook graag naar jou toe.

We bieden portretsessies op locatie aan, waarbij we je fotograferen in je eigen huis, op de plek waar je je het prettigst voelt en waar jouw persoonlijkheid het beste tot zijn recht komt.

Het is nooit te vroeg om alvast na te denken over kerstcadeaus voor opa en oma.

Vergeet die zoveelste paar sokken of een fles wijn. Geef ze iets wat ze écht zullen koesteren: prachtige, eigentijdse foto’s van de mensen van wie ze het meest houden.

And that’s a wrap for @modebyflickr 2026.

My third and final hands-on workshop was **Posing for Profit** — but really, it was about so much more than posing.

It was about making every minute of a shoot count. Finding the light, directing with confidence, changing things up and creating a ton of variety in a short space of time. More options, more possibilities, better images.

We got photographers shooting, experimenting and pushing their ideas — and they absolutely delivered. @janaecmoore was incredibly patient and very easy to photograph.

The last three days have been something else.

MODE isn’t your typical photography festival. It’s taken over downtown Minneapolis, bringing together photographers from completely different backgrounds, cultures and visual styles.

And that’s the magic of it.

Minneapolis was the perfect backdrop — a proper melting pot of people, ideas and energy.

Three days. A ton of photographs. Great conversations. New inspiration.

MODE 2026 — you were a blast.

Get uncomfortable.

That was really the point of this workshop at @modebyflickr Photography Festival in Minneapolis.

I wanted the photographers to photograph in ways they’d never photographed before. To stop playing it safe. To experiment, make mistakes, move their feet, change the light and see what happens.

I had the beautiful @janaecmoore and her husband @freshquo in front of the cameras, and we took over one of the incredible installations right in the middle of downtown Minneapolis.

We played with off-camera flash. First, matching the ambient light. Then pushing the flash hard enough to completely overpower it.

Different light. Different approach. Different images.

And a group of photographers who were willing to get uncomfortable and have a good time doing it.

There was a lot of laughter, a lot of experimenting and, hopefully, a few moments where people thought: “I’ve never shot like this before.”

That’s where the good stuff starts.

Huge thanks to Mode for putting in the effort to push, educate and uplift our industry. This is exactly the kind of energy photography needs.

One workshop left tomorrow.

First workshop for @modebyflickr done. 5 to go.

Kicked off Mode Photography Festival in Minneapolis with a fast-paced shoot focused on editorial, fashion, style and wedding photography.

@devonericksen and @mikaelmekyel were absolutely brilliant. Great energy, completely up for it, and somehow we managed to pull together a stack of strong images in a very short time.

No endless posing. No overthinking. Just good people, good light, a clear idea and getting stuck in.

The delegates brought the energy and, judging by the laughs and the images they walked away with, they had a pretty good time too.

Here’s a little behind the scenes, with some of the results thrown in.

Sieraden. Twee lampen. En een hoop gedoe met reflecties.

Ik vind productfotografie echt leuk. Het licht precies goed krijgen, de juiste hoeken vinden en ervoor zorgen dat een product er op z’n best uitziet.

Eén licht. Eén familie.

Toen de Managing Director van Nikon Nederland bij ons in de studio kwam, was de briefing allesbehalve traditionele familiefotografie.

Hij wilde rauw. Echt. Ongefilterd.

Dus brachten we het helemaal terug naar de basis — één licht, zwart-wit, close-up en geen plek om je achter te verschuilen.

Geen geforceerde glimlachen. Geen matchende outfits. Geen Instagram-perfecte familiefantasie.

Gewoon persoonlijkheid. Karakter. De mensen achter het beeld.

Geschoten als een portret. Gevoeld als een editorial.

Soms zijn de interessantste familiefoto’s juist de foto’s die weigeren eruit te zien als familiefoto’s. #familiefotografie #portretfotografie #gezinsfotografie #editorialportrait #fashionportret taken in Winkelcentrum Bilthoven de Kwinkelier by @brettflorens
