The heat wave has brought good business to one Huntington Beach staple. 🧊☀️

Brewster's Ice has supplied Orange County with ice since 1945. The owner says business this week is more than double what they usually see this time of year.

CBS LA went inside their freezers to learn more about the historic business. by @brewstersice

A little piece of old Huntington Beach still standing. 🧊

Virgil Brewster came to Huntington Beach as a kid in the 1920s and later graduated from Huntington Beach High School. After World War II, he purchased a surplus military icehouse, moved it to 6th Street in 1945 and became Huntington Beach’s local iceman.

Before refrigerators were in every home, residents would place a numbered sign in their window showing how many pounds of ice they needed. Virgil would make his rounds delivering blocks of ice around town, at one point using three Model A Ford ice trucks.

His deliveries included homes, restaurants and Huntington Beach landmarks like the Golden Bear and Surf Theater!

More than 80 years later, Brewster’s Ice is still a little piece of Downtown Huntington Beach history. 🧊
