I have so much empathy for the children and families that have had their lives completely destroyed by the ongoing genocide in Gaza. This family in particular has held a special place in my heart since earlier this year. I started keeping up with their story when they were forcibly displaced from their home with a young child, pregnant mother, and father. Baby Mary is now around 7 months old. Her whole 7 months of life have been lived in displacement and survival mode. I work with infants and toddlers daily, and I see the same spirit in Kareem and Mary that I do in the children that I care for. It breaks my heart that these children know nothing other than this life of chaos and trauma, yet they seem so resilient. I am amazed everyday by how much their parents care and advocate for a better life for them. No child deserves to be afraid of bombs or violence. Children should be worrying about playing with toys, not feeling unsafe. ALL children deserve a life of stability, safety, love, and joy. This family and so many others rely on our support. We aren’t donating to accommodate them, we are donating to help them survive.
