From my MFA Thesis Exhibition, Biomies, at CU Boulder Art Museum 🌿

Biomies (n.): A conceptual synthesis of biome and homies (Chicanx slang for friends); the term articulates an ethic of relational kinship between humans and animals. It frames biome communities as intimate networks of collaboration, interdependence, and shared vulnerability. Biomies functions as both a theoretical lens and creative methodology, proposing that multispecies alliances, rooted in care, and solidarity, offer alternative imaginaries for ecological survival and collective flourishing.

In this body of work, I imagine a post-apocalyptic world where animals and humans consensually hybridize to proliferate and fortify their genetics for future generations to exist. Hybrids emerge as resilient witnesses, and archivists of ecological collapse. Through mixed-media paintings that merge figurative, abstract, and surreal vocabularies, I explore the femme queer human and endangered animal body as a site of multispecies connection, and resistance. These hybrid beings inhabit landscapes shaped by regeneration as much as ruin, holding space for the entangled futures of life on Earth.

My practice seeks to illuminate the intertwined precarity of human and animal life under the pressures of late-stage capitalism, consumerism, and colonization. By rendering bodies that exceed singular identity- part creature, part survivor- I invite viewers to reconsider their relationships to the species and ecologies pushed toward biological annihilation.

Last month, for one night, I had the chance to project an activist art piece close to my heart on the Daniels & Fisher Tower in downtown Denver. Thank and honor the people who grow your food if it’s not you who puts in the back breaking labor in the fields for a full tummy. 🌱
