WELCOME HOME 🤲🏽 That’s been the consistent phrase I’ve heard since I stepped foot on African soil, spending time in Rwanda and Tanzania for 19 days. My journal is bursting with pages of notes—sharing a few reflections and reminders that I’ll take with me:1. Polepole, which means slowly and carefully in Swahili. I was told this a lot, too. Moving slowly requires more patience and creates space to observe and truly taste all that you are consuming versus quickly swallowing whole to get to the next thing. 2. Every living being + organism has a specific purpose that contributes to the circle of life. We are born with purpose. 3. Someone’s shit is someone else’s heaven. 4. Nature functions in divine order. “Modern” society has disrupted that order in many ways. Life should only be as complex as necessary, and as simple as possible. Many of the answers we seek are found in nature and in the “old” way of doing things. 5. Connection+community is a core necessity (for humans, animals and insects alike).6. Open your heart and release fear. I am a magnet for greatness and abundance because light attracts light. My experience in Africa has been life changing because my light is on, brightly. I’ve heard that I’ve seen and experienced very rare and special occurrences that many people don’t get when they come here—I don’t take that for granted. Nor am I surprised by it. 7. The secret to life really is nourishing yourself with sunlight, water+nutritious food, learning from others+nature, love+companionship, activating the body, a curious mind, striving for your best+highest self and convening with a higher power. I am forever changed by the Mother of all lands and its people, power, beauty, resilience and lessons. My spirit vibrates with happiness and gratitude, especially toward a special someone who shared this experience with me. I hope you know the depths of my appreciation…Asante Sana❤️Until next time, mother Africa ✨ by @briabixby

this is my first time honoring father’s day. EVER. i saw and spoke to my father for the first time since 1989 last weekend. before june 7, i only had one photo of him from when i was a year old. now i have two. this has been and will continue to be an emotional roller coaster for both of us but we are committed to the journey. happy father’s day, dad. by @briabixby
