October 3rd. Our once-a-year Open Studio here on Cape Cod... . Originals. Unique pieces. The 2027 calendars. Larger work that’s impossible to ship. Storyblocks with your favorite stories (like you see in the picture). & other things that will make perfect sense when you see them & hold them in your hands... . & plenty of conversation. About the meaning of things. About how to pick even better meanings for a happier life. Probably one or two conversations about dogs (based on past experience. HA.) . So, if you’re nearby Cape Cod, feel free to set aside part of the day to come see us. It’s October 3rd from 11 to 2. . (Since we live in a quiet neighborhood, we ask that you RSVP (so we can send you the address as we get closer to the date...)) . Here’s where to send your RSVP: info@FlyingEdna.com . We’ll look forward to seeing you there... . with love, kai & fia . P.S. If you can’t make it, you can still drop by Flying Edna & see a lot of what’ll be there. New stories. The two 2027 calendars (which are our favorites yet. Mainly because we found a really luscious paper to print on…). Link to get there in the profile. taken in Cape Cod, MA by @brianandreas

true wish...  I had a friend in California who had a standard answer when I’d ask how things were going. It’s perfect, he’d say & unlike me who likes to dive into a deeper explanation of pretty much everything, he’d smile & that would be the end of it.
.
One time, I asked him how he came up with that, that whatever came along was perfect. I fully expected he’d say something like good & bad are simply beliefs we hold about the world. Or that, after so many years of meditation, he was simply able to see the truth behind all things... . I didn’t expect what he actually said. It’s my life, he said & then he shrugged as if it was obvious. Why wouldn’t it be perfect for me? . (Even after all this time, it’s hard to dispute the elegant logic of that...:-)) . ‘true wish’ is available as a giclée artprint at Flying Edna. the reason why... .  Someone asked me a while back why I’d written this story. I’ve heard so many interpretations of it over the years that I honestly forget. But I don’t think it really matters. I’ve come to think of it as more of a celebration of whoever in your life reminds you of how beautiful & strange it all is... . So, let’s celebrate that...:-) . Here’s to the ones who are intrigued by something they’ve read. Or seen on a walk. Or overheard in passing. The ones who see all the bothersome things in the world & all the marvelous & lovely things, too & who decide the marvelous things are more interesting... . Here’s to the ones who imagine possibilities. Things sparklier. New ways of being together. Inventions & quantum physics & words arranged on a page just so until a doorway opens up right there in front of you... . Here’s to the ones who leave a light on so you can find your way home on those dark nights. Who bake cookies & leave them on the porch with a handwritten note. Who travel long distances to sit by your side while you figure things out. . Here’s to whoever they may be, the ones who remind you Exactly When You Need It of everything there is in this world to love... . with love, brian . ‘the reason why’ is available as an artprint & storyblock. How often do you have a sale on all things paper inspired by accidentally picking up a book by Marie Kondo? ;-) . This summer I’ve been grabbing random books from our bookshelves to read out in the backyard. That’s when I saw Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up right between our well-used copy of the Rancho Gordo Bean Cookbook & a guide to Japanese bookbinding techniques. . As you’ve most likely done, I’ve read this book cover to cover. But as I thumbed through the pages, I had the impulse again to touch everysinglething in the house to see if it gives me joy... . I’ll spare you the details, but it turns out one of the biggest piles of Stuff-We’ve-Accumulated is paper. You name it, we’ve collected it. Handmade cotton sheets. Rolls of drawing paper. Thick etching papers. Greeting card stocks. Artisanal papers from Germany & Tibet & Korea... . So in the name of joy (& to be fair, in the name of using what we have), we decided to have an impromptu summer sale! Including the holiday cards you see here. Because I suggested it would be good to have new ones & it coincided with Brian avoiding other deadlines. Yay me!) . (Can you guess what the sale is going to be?...Paper. Of course. HA. Link in the profile takes you right to the summer sale…) . wishing wellness & wonder, fia #flyingedna #fiaskye #brianandreas taken in Cape Cod, MA by @brianandreas

It rained the whole day yesterday. If I haven’t mentioned it before, our puppy Koko HATES the rain. She takes it as a personal affront & when it comes time to go on a walk, looks at me as if I’ve done this to her on purpose.
.
I was finally able to coax her out by singing to her. Making up songs about brave dogs in the rain. Songs about how pretty & sleek she was with her coat glistening that way. Songs about the smell of earth & warm pavement. Finally, songs about singing, as I started to run out of topics. (OK, & there may have been a few renditions of The Sun’ll Come Out Tomorrow, but that was just because it made me laugh. Not because I believed it...)
.
In the end, we stayed out long enough that the rain became a part of the background & we waved at passing cars & barked at turkeys & found some things that didn’t necessarily need to be found (& yes, the sun came out this morning, just like the song promised...:-)) . ‘heart songs’ is available at Flying Edna as an artprint. As I was looking through my notebooks yesterday, the song ‘favorite things’ from The Sound of Music popped into my head. raindrops on roses & whiskers, etc., etc. (you know the rest of it...;-)) . Because there’ve been so many favorite things these past few days of summer. Our puppy Koko napping at our feet in the shade of the maple. Just picked cantaloupe (the orange one) from the farmstand. Fresh corn & strawberries for dinner. The smell of new-mown grass all over the neighborhood. The little girl who sings out loud, often in tune, while she rides her bicycle around & around the block (because that’s as far as her mom lets her go)... . (so, here’s my wish for you in these days: that you’re filled to the brim with your own favorite things, that amaze you every single time...) . ‘every single time’ is available at flying edna.
