every time I visit el salvador I am reminded of how blessed I am to have everything that I do and to be able to witness my beautiful culture. the art here never fails to blow me away. yet when I try to learn the history of the people that make these beautiful creations, I am left with nothing. on multiple occasions i’ve tried to do research on the indigenous people that came before me but their history has been erased. my history has been erased. my country is beautiful with so much to offer yet all you see publicized is destruction and devastation. all at the hands of the people responsible for said devastation. I love my roots and I hope seeing this encourages you to appreciate indigenous cultures. my people do not deserved to be forgotten we deserve to be celebrated. taken in El Salvador by @brianoia

It’s taking me forever to type this, but I don’t think I will ever find the right words to explain how deeply I dreaded this day.

Pa, you were the light of my life. You loved me so beautifully and completely. There are so many things I could thank you for, but above all, I thank you for your patience. I thank you for never letting me doubt, even for a second, that you loved me with all of your heart. I thank you for never losing your temper, or letting your disappointment show. I thank you for always making me feel like the most beautiful girl in the world. I thank you for always supporting my weird interest, and helping me with any endeavors I had. I thank you for your endless support and dedication to everyone around you.

When I was little I loved to sing and he always wanted to put me in music classes after school. When I was nine I loved photography and he would always take me to parks to take pictures of nature. When I was twelve I started listening to alternative music and he would listen to me talk about my favorite artists and take me record shopping. When I wanted to take makeup seriously he bought me a full vanity and an entire shade range of foundations. He gladly drove me to all my bookings so that he could to help me carry all of my stuff. When I wanted to start selling Salvadoran crafts, he helped me set up all of my displays at markets and even helped my friends put up their signs.

You’ve shown me what a love without limits looks like, and to extend my love to everyone around me. You were a father figure not just to me and my siblings, but to family and friends as well. Everyone who knew me could see the immense love you poured into me and how kind your soul was. I talked about you everywhere I went, and I will continue to do so.

I am so so so so so so so proud to be your daughter and I will scream this from the top of every rooftop. You are the best dad anyone could ever ask for. Thank you so much for everything.
