SCREEN PRINTED TANK TOP

Our closing statement in the CAYÓ collection takes the form of screen-printed tank tops, blending conceptual depth with wearable design. Each tank top carries motifs that reflect two of our central inspirations: the corrosion patterns of corten steel and the vibrant, organic petri dish forms that embody cycles of transformation and life.

LOOK 06 - THE CARCASS

The carcass embodies a form of body architecture, where bones, flesh, and muscles intertwine to reveal an internal structure. Designed as a tribute to the works of Soutine and Philippe Cognée, both of whom masterfully captured the materiality of flesh in their paintings, this look channels their visceral artistry.

The fabric, pleated, enhances the visceral and tactile dimension of the piece. This method of binding, folding, and compressing fabric creates unique patterns that evoke the folds and creases of flesh, the tension and release of muscles, and even, through its irregularity, the fragmentation of a carcass.

LOOK 05 - THE CORE

Inspired by the still-life motif, and more specifically by Sam Taylor-Wood’s masterpiece Still Life, this look embodies the decomposition of an apple, capturing that fleeting moment when nature succumbs to the passage of time while paradoxically retaining a singular grace. This grace is revealed through its irregular volumes and ever-changing textures. The panier corset beneath shapes the body like a withered apple core, a sculptural echo of decay.

The accompanying dress, with hand-stitched pleats, mirrors the hollows and wrinkles of a fruit in decline. Finally, touches of dye add nuance and depth, subtly mapping the progression of rot and enhancing the notion that, even in decline, nature unveils an unexpected and ephemeral beauty.

LOOK 04 - THE HUMUS

This look draws inspiration from the works of Brueghel and his sumptuous floral compositions, through which he masterfully captured the splendor of blooming bouquets while subtly hinting at their inevitable wilting.

This outfit follows the same philosophy: the screen-printed flowers sewn onto the top, though vibrant and abundant, are depicted in a state of decline. This decline, however, is suspended through the use of a textile hardener, which appears to petrify the petals in their final moments.

This bouquet, uprooted from the soil, seems frozen in that pivotal moment when an end transforms into the prelude of a new beginning. As they return to the earth, the flowers are destined to become the fertile ground for other life forms, thus contributing to the eternal cycle of regeneration.

LOOK 03 - CORTEN

This look is a tribute to Richard Serra, the legendary sculptor who passed away this year. His groundbreaking use of corten steel as a medium inspired the core of this design.

Corten steel is renowned for its natural evolution, with a protective oxidized patina forming over time. This layer acts as both a shield and a testament to its transformation, offering durability while visually embodying decay. By incorporating his signature material into the creation of our look, this outfit was designed to capture the tension between apparent fragility and enduring strength.

Two corten steel bags complete the look as living objects which are meant to evolve in symbiosis with their wearer, transforming over time under the influence of human skin acidity and exposure to the elements. In the end, this interplay of material and environment reflects the dynamic beauty of decay and regeneration.

LOOK 02 - THE BACTERIA

Inspired by the work of biologist Ernst Haeckel, this ensemble pays homage to the intricate beauty of natural structures immortalized in his scientific illustrations, transforming decomposition into a source of visual fascination.

Through its interplay of transparency and texture, it breathes life into an unseen universe, a teeming ecosystem that embodies the process of decay. Layers of a double tank top and a long-sleeve shirt create shifting depths of translucence, evoking the delicate fragility of unicellular organisms.

Across the outfit, greenish patterns stretch like bacterial colonies, mirroring the proliferation of life forms set in motion by decomposition. These details invite us to marvel at the unseen forces shaping the cycle of life, where decay becomes a cradle of new beginnings.
