‘Papa and I’
Family photograph collage on canvas
24 in. X 36 in.

(Swipe for process pics)

After two long months, this work is complete! I’m so so happy with the way this piece turned out, every time I make one of these collages I learn something new. For me, color theory and positioning each photograph piece was a task I grew to love in this work.

This collage will be another addition to my “Is it Better to be Held than to Hold?” series, which explores childhood memory using family photographs as both the subject and medium of my art. This image shows my papa carrying me on his shoulders and illustrates a moment of joy between the two of us. This photograph was taken in nana and papas bedroom, during a time where I was supposed to be asleep. by @brick.collage

Grateful beyond measure to @artistforumatlanta and @echo_contemporary_art for hosting such a wonderful exhibit. Seeing my collages on a gallery wall always takes my breath away, and for my work to be surrounded by such talented artists is a gift. Much love to those who came to see the show 🫶🏻 by @brick.collage

Is it Better to be Held than to Hold?
Family photographs on canvas, 40 in. x 30 in.

After many months, this project is complete! Pictures and videos don’t do it justice, I am so so happy and pleased with how this turned out. The first picture is of my grandparents house in New Mexico, a place I called my second home. I wanted to recreate this image using old photographs that I found in our box of treasures, all taken by family members. I know the perspective can be odd and the colors don’t completely match, but i loved the idea of abstracting a place I have been absent from for many years. I cant wait to do more projects like this! Cheers! by @brick.collage

Family photograph collage on canvas
24”x20”

For as long as I can remember, my family would write Inka Binka poems for each other for special occasions. It wasn’t until my high school graduation that I received my first Inka Binka poem from my mom. With this piece, I hope to return the favor 💖 although the colors don’t match completely, I feel proud to add this to my series! by @brick.collage

Looking Back
Family and Personal photograph collage on canvas

It was bittersweet working on this piece if I’m being honest. I traveled a few weeks ago back to New Mexico to visit the place I once called home, the first time I’ve returned since moving to Georgia. During the trip, I visited my grandparents home - the home that was built by their hands and the home I was raised in. I was denied the ability to photograph the space, which was heartbreaking beyond belief. After returning home and sitting with my thoughts, this piece became a form of comfort. I’m not sure who took this photo of me in nana and papa’s backyard, but I can only imagine it was one of my grandparents. Without the photos of their house, the memories of their love are what I have now. by @brick.collage
