Just like that… tagged out on what will likely be the biggest bear I’ll ever get the chance to harvest 😳

After 5 years of putting in for the lottery, I finally drew a tag. I’d seen some great bears around the house and knew from cameras throughout deer season that there were a few REAL ones in the area.

Once baiting season started, I spread out across a big area and ran a few stations. After some moving around, I found a couple spots with consistent bear activity. This bear was one my buddy Erik and I knew was around, and once he found the bait, he was there EVERY day. We had clearly found his core area.

Being my first bear hunt, I tried to soak up as much information as possible from seasoned bear hunters. I wanted to learn everything I could and make sure I gave myself the best chance at being successful.

A couple days before opener, I sighted in my new @rugersofficial Gen 2 and called my brother to come up and help film and experience a moment neither of us had ever shared before.

Opening evening, we sat for 4 long hours without seeing so much as a squirrel. Then we heard a branch break.

We looked up and there he was.

Two and a half minutes later, 12 yards, one loud boom, and I had my first bear on the ground.

Complete disbelief.

To top it off, my buddy Josh across the road also tagged his first bear. Both were close enough to get out with the @canamoffroad , making for one hell of an evening.

Crazy way to kick off the season.

My entire life, I completely underestimated how excited some dog owners get when they’re out hunting. I’ve quickly realized how incredible it is to have a dog and watch things start to click in his brain, and then see that click drive even more excitement out of him.

Instead of focusing on big feeds or chasing special birds, it’s been refreshing to just hit the woods for a short walk or get the pup in the field over a couple birds and watch him get reps.

There’s something pretty damn cool about watching them figure it all out 🙌 by @brickfishing

One solid pile pic in honor of Minnesota’s duck opener 🙋‍♂️

Life has been moving a million miles an hour lately, so it was nice to slow down, sit in a duck slough, and watch the world come alive.

Getting to watch a buddy put a banded Suzie in the bag made it that much better 😉 by @brickfishing

I had this buck at full draw a couple of times, confusing him with another deer, and ended up seeing him on the hoof 5 or 6 more times after that. After watching him grow another year, I had my mind made up that I’d pass him again and hope he makes it through one more fall.

He is an absolute beautiful whitetail at 3 years old, and I’m really hoping he can make it through. Future freak 😳 by @brickfishing

September has started off hot 🙋‍♂️

I’ve been fortunate enough to try, test, hunt, and tell success stories with the new SWAY by XOP. Both of these sets required a long walk through different terrain, including swamp, bog, and a long cornfield.

I can’t wait to rut hunt out of this set. The stand is incredibly comfortable while you’re sitting, but still light enough to make those long walk-ins a little easier.

Hopefully, we can keep things rolling as Minnesota opens this weekend 🙌 by @brickfishing
