Nurturing and Inspiring women to rise in politics & Leadership. An initiative of the office of the speaker House of Representatives 🇳🇬@speakerabbas

POSTS STORIES REELS

At a time where Nigeria stands at the brink of history, the National Strategic Advocacy Committee on the Special Seats Bill came together with one united voice, to speak from the heart and to appeal to our Honourable Members of the House of Representatives. This is not just another advocacy moment; it is a sincere call to secure a better future for every Nigerian woman whose voice has too often been absent at the decision-making table.

Our appeal is directed to the lawmakers of the 10th Assembly, even as our voices align with that of the Honourable Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON, who has consistently emphasized that the Special Seats Bill is not just a law, it is an opportunity to build a stronger, more progressive, and more inclusive Nigeria.

Leaders from different spheres of influence have come together because we believe deeply in what Nigeria can become. We believe in a future where women are not sidelined but empowered; where our daughters grow up knowing they belong at every table where decisions about their lives are made.

And as we make this heartfelt appeal, we say this with sincerity:
This appeal reflects the heart of your constituents, your followers, your sisters, your daughters, your wives, your mothers, and your friends.

And so we say again:
“To our dear, forward-thinking, progressive lawmakers; this Bill is a gift to your daughters, your wives, your mothers, and every Nigerian woman. Passing it is passing hope into our future.”

I am proud to have led alongside with @joy_akut the coordination of the successful unveiling of the national Leadership for Equity, Advocacy and Development (LEAD) Fellowship on Gender Transformative Leadership and Inclusion in Tertiary Institutions, a partnership between the Office of the Speaker, House of Representatives, and @gendermobile

As Special Adviser on Gender to the Speaker, I remain deeply committed to translating our institutional priorities on gender equality, women and youth inclusion into meaningful programmes that equip the next generation to lead change.

The LEAD Fellowship is an 18-month virtual leadership and capacity-development programme designed to equip students in tertiary institutions with the knowledge and practical tools to advance gender-transformative leadership, inclusion and safer educational environments. Through learning, advocacy and engagement, participants will be empowered to challenge harmful norms, promote accountability and contribute to campuses where dignity, safety, opportunity and leadership are accessible to all.

Since the inauguration of the 10th House of Representatives under the leadership of the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON, we have remained deliberate about advancing women and youth inclusion and strengthening institutional responses to gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment. The LEAD Fellowship builds on this commitment and reinforces our belief that lasting reform requires not only legislation, but education, advocacy, behavioural change and empowered young people.

I deeply appreciate @gendermobile for another meaningful partnership and for sharing our commitment to creating lasting institutional change. To the students who will be selected, let this be more than another certificate on your résumé. Learn. Build meaningful networks. Develop solutions. Challenge what must change, and become the leaders our institutions and country need.
