One of the features of Earth Talk is a podcast, of interviews with people who work in public settings for social and environmental change.
This interview focused on @thegreatimagining, an action research project that centres imagination for environmental and futures education. Deborah Curtis has been leading this vision for a national-scale schools programme, building on the arts-led projects of The House of Fairy Tales. Deborah participated in a pilot course of Earth Talk. The conversation focused on the efficacy of an integrated framework and the importance of thoughtful learning design and evaluation.
You can access the podcasts and all the other benefits & resources by joining the Earth Talk community. And you can also be interviewed too. Hopefully the next interview will be with @hilarycoxcondron by @bridget.earthtalk

I’ve not posted for a while, but I’ve been busy adding two more learning modules, and we’ve had 3 meet-ups already. This post is about the kinds of things we talk about in our meet ups. As a community of practice we listen to each other and share support. The kinds of things we chat about include: how to include difficult conversations when people expect arts activities to be fun; how to reach larger numbers in rural areas, resistant to eco topics, even when affected by impacts; when storytelling leaves out the bits about exploitation and power; how to manage aggression in conversations; how to make non-consumerism attractive; and how to resource people to be more active. Many other topics will come up, and you are very welcome to join us. The next gathering on 15th October. Link in bio to join Earth Talk. by @bridget.earthtalk

One of the features of Earth Talk is a podcast, of interviews with people who work in public settings for social and environmental change. This interview is with Sean Irving, whose research is about community-based economic strategies for long-term systemic change, with a focus on Cooperation Hull. The conversation explored the role of prefigurative coping strategies and the relationship between imagination and activation. The three big themes were: Building and Fighting Strategy, Theory and Practical Application; and Cooperative Economic Development. You can access the podcasts and all the other benefits & resources by joining the Earth Talk community (one-off cost of £75). And you can also be interviewed too. by @bridget.earthtalk

To learn more about the thinking behind Earth Talk listen to this interview with @mandascott2 on the Accidental Gods podcast. From Manda’s intro blurb “creative activism is what we’re all about – how do we stretch our imaginations beyond the bounds of what we believe to be true now, to what might be true if we can only lay the foundations for something utterly outside our current capacity to imagine?
This was such an inspiring conversation with someone who thinks deeply about the nature of art, creativity, culture – and the ways we can engage ourselves and each other at the deepest level.” https://accidentalgods.life/the-art-of-possibility-a-possitopian-approach-to-the-earth-crisis-with-bridget-mckenzie-of-earth-talk/ by @bridget.earthtalk

Three examples of Artivism - from Wild Voices parade by @reimagine_norwich ; Climate Conversations installation inspired by Warming Stripes by @jacquijonesart ; and luscious bags made from old tents by @reworkedcanvas amongst 1000s of possible stories to tell. A new module coming to the Earth Talk courses is The Artivist’s Way. This has lots of activities for you to make your activism more creative or your art more impactful. Inspired by Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way. Here’s a taster session, free & open to non-members, on 2 September at 5.30 online https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/taster-of-the-artivists-way-tickets-1998537652919 by @bridget.earthtalk

One of the many offers in the Earth Talk community are podcasts. These are interviews with practitioners of Earth Talk in different settings or ways. One of the interviewees is Ruth Catlow from @furtherfield - which is a long-established arts organisation doing interspecies and place-based imaginative work with communities - these days very much in Felixstowe where the programme ‘Reimagine This Coastal Town’ is led by young people. Members can access the podcast, and can be interviewed for it too. by @bridget.earthtalk

Kinda chic to be growing Earth Literacy just when Earth is desperate to be heard.

Also, it feels a bit awkward to be jumping on a social media trend when this is such an incredibly serious matter.

And also it's a huge simplification to say that Earth wants to be heard. It needs, or we, Earthlings need to act meaningfully to help our living world.

These mixed feelings and entanglements with the system are the kinds of things that come up in Earth Talk - in our peer network and in the conversations we have with people.

The first peer support call is this Thursday, 20th August, 9.00 am. You can get the meet link if you feel like signing up to Earth Talk. by @bridget.earthtalk

Do you feel a need to be with others who are having conversations and organising activities with people in response to the Earth Crisis? Share your challenges and tactics in this work, whether emotional, intellectual or practical, and whether or not you’re already deep into it or just starting. This is the first of monthly gatherings online. Sometimes we’ve met in person too, and that will happen more as the community grows and spreads. The peer support is one of many gifts - including masses of learning modules, resources and recordings. by @bridget.earthtalk

My Artivism Manifesto
- I declare that this is an Earth Crisis
- Creativity and culture can be a powerful adaptive and regenerative force
- Creativity enlivens the imagination and generates culture
- Artivism works for the liberation of culture
- I aim for culture change, a stretch beyond behaviour change
- Honour and uplift change-makers dismantling harmful structures
- If creativity is resourced and directed, it can do great things
- No individual can tackle the whole system alone, and collectives need sustenance

I'm working on a book The Artivist's Way, and Artivism is also a Module in the Earth Talk programme. The invitation is to create your own manifesto, for your own leaning to art, activism or the combo of the two. @bridget.earthtalk by @bridget.earthtalk

The alarm we all got on our phone has triggered a lot of chat about how alarming this situation is, whether alarms are needed. I wish we’d had emergency declarations and alarms 40 years ago. Last night I was noodling on my guitar singing new lyrics to this Radiohead song. Thinking how I am alarmed but not surprised at how rapidly worse things are getting. This is a Transapocalypse - impacts crossing the Earth in unpredictable ways, including us in cooler climes. Anyway, I was literally singing these lyrics when the alarm started sounding. I whipped out in panic thinking my fences would be on fire like they were 2 months ago, and having seen nearby Mousehold Heath burning on the 13th August. I was safe for now but we’re generally not safe. We need alarms, and emergency plans & refugia, and we need to stop the proliferation of fossil fuels. And we need to talk about it so take a look at my Earth Talk programme on @bridget.earthtalk by @bridget.earthtalk
