Cranes in the sky in the fields in the river. They don’t know this is a flyover state, that it’s deemed “missable.” Yet the river we’ve drained is still home for the month, has been since long before borders or bridges or “months” were invented. Do they see us here on the bridge? All of us, who come from far-flung places to flyover country. This girl gets married tomorrow and I’ve been thinking about how lucky I am to have a sister + to be a sister; she makes me laugh and yell (maybe the only person in the world I can actually yell at????) and cry and feel loved so loved because she’s this beautiful most reliable caring being; one minute we’re driving down I-80 singing at the top of our lungs (always so loud in the car) the next we’re giggling about some dark joke one of us made about death and no one else is laughing but it was actually so funny you all just don’t get it yet. She’s the most reliable person I know, the softest and the strongest, lights up every room she walks into, your biggest fan, fierce protector of her humans, will argue until she wins because she’s always right, does not know how to half-ass anything, biggest little kid crying at every animated movie, every puppy she meets, every baby that makes eye contact with her must be her new best friend and most of the time I get to be with her these days all I can think is “damn I am so happy I get to do all of life with you in my corner.” by @bridget_joan
