This is what campaign ads should be like btw...

The midterms are here and with them are the usual negative ads telling us what's wrong with "the other side" and pitting us against each other.

Red vs blue and left vs right.

What if, instead of trying to sow division and team politics, we sought collaboration and civility? We'd see a lot more than campaign ads change for the better.

That all starts with a willingness to engage. It's simple: talk to a Republican, a Democrat, a Libertarian, Green, Independent.

Have a conversation with someone that doesn't see things the way you do.

If two candidates running against each other for Governor can do it, so can you.

Politics is increasingly shaping where students choose to go to college.

According to a new @insidehighered report on an Art & Science Group poll, 34% of students said they ruled out a college based solely on the politics of its state, up from 24% in 2023.

Here's why that's a problem: when we avoid disagreement instead of seeking it out, we find ourselves in ideological bubbles.

Is it possible to disagree on a topic like Israel / Palestine and remain friends?

We certainly think so. Here's a student from our @BridgeStonyBrook chapter who recently had a conversation on that topic with a friend of his.

They didn't agree. But that hasn't stopped them from being friends. It also hasn't stopped them from having conversations.

We'll be better able to confront even the toughest challenges if we can remember that conversation is the first step. And in today's political climate, it's often a courageous first step.

Imagine running against someone to be mayor and ending up being friends with them...

Politics doesn't have to keep us from being friendly with each other and it certainly doesn't have to keep us from talking to each other and working together to solve our problems.
