Rottingdean, we’re coming back. 🎶

We had such a brilliant time performing on the Terraces this summer that we couldn’t resist a return visit.

On **Saturday 24 October**, Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus will be at **St Margaret’s Church** for a full evening of music in a much more intimate setting than you usually get to see us.

With only around 100 seats available, it’s a chance to hear the Chorus properly up close — and we’d love to see some familiar faces from the summer.

📅 Saturday 24 October
📍 St Margaret’s Church, Rottingdean
🎟️ Tickets £18

What a summer. 🏳️‍🌈❤️

From Heroes and Mother Clap’s Molly House to Rottingdean, Brighton Pride and Various Voices in Brussels…

And somehow along the way we found ourselves singing with Holly Johnson and joining Fatboy Slim on stage.

Loads of songs. Thousands of people. Quite a few costume changes. And a summer we won't be forgetting in a hurry.

Thank you to everyone who sang with us, performed with us, came to see us, cheered us on — or discovered Brighton Gay Men's Chorus for the first time.

So… what do we do after a summer like that?

🔪 Next stop: Brighton Dome.

MEET THE SOLOISTS: Chris 🎤

For **Mother Clap’s Molly House**, Chris stepped into the spotlight with *Somewhere* from **West Side Story** — a song whose hope for a place where people can simply be together felt made for the world of the Molly House. 🏳️‍🌈

“*Somewhere* packs an awful lot into a very short time. It tied in so well with the story and message of the Molly House show that it was a no brainer.”

But this performance had another dimension. Chris sang *Somewhere* in character, connecting the song directly to the story unfolding on stage.

“Getting to sing it in character just added to the connection with the song and the feeling of repeated struggle through the ages — but always with hope of a better future.”

That idea of finding somewhere to belong has a personal resonance for Chris too.

After making the decision to come out later in life and move to Brighton, he found BGMC became a huge part of discovering himself — while also giving him the chance to reconnect with something he’d left behind in childhood: singing.

Now approaching the end of his fourth year with Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus, he says simply:

“I love everything about it — and it’s only getting better.”

A song written decades ago, performed in a story set centuries ago — and the same enduring hope for somewhere we can belong. ❤️

For Rod, “The Sky Above the Roof” became a way of thinking about what happened after the Molly House raid — and about the price queer people have paid, and still pay, simply for loving who they love.

After the raid, Ned is imprisoned. Rod’s solo asks us to imagine what that experience might have done to him: how he survived it, how it changed him, and what freedom might mean afterwards.

The song also carries something deeply personal for Rod. Twenty-one years ago, he walked home from his first Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus rehearsal feeling as though he had come home. Since then, the Chorus has given him countless musical memories — and introduced him to his husband.

From imprisonment to belonging, from isolation to chosen family: “The Sky Above the Roof” sits right at the heart of what *Molly House* was trying to say.

🏳️‍🌈 When one LGBTQ+ chorus is told its voice matters less, the rest of us should sing a little louder.

Our friends across the Atlantic at Greenville Gay Men’s Chorus in South Carolina are facing the loss of almost $40,000 in public arts funding over the next three years.

Of around 180 arts organisations considered for funding by the South Carolina Arts Commission, just two were held back: Greenville Gay Men’s Chorus and Proud Mary Theatre Company.

Both are LGBTQ+ organisations.

Greenville Gay Men’s Chorus has spent years doing something we understand very well here in Brighton: making music, creating community and giving LGBTQ+ people a place to belong.

Now they’re fighting to keep doing it.

They’ve launched a fundraiser to replace the funding they’re at risk of losing — and we wanted to send our love and solidarity from one queer chorus to another.

🌈 If you’re able to donate, please do.

If you can’t, sharing their story helps too.

From Brighton to Greenville: keep singing. We’re with you. ❤️

“You are my chosen family.” 💙

When Sadao Ueda first came across Rina Sawayama’s *Chosen Family*, he was looking for a gay anthem to audition with. What he found was a song whose message felt perfectly at home in *Mother Clap’s Molly House*.

Wherever you come from, whatever you are, family can also be the people we find — and choose — along the way.

That idea has a particular resonance for Sadao. He joined Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus in September 2009 and, in the years since, has made some of his closest friends here.

For his performance, though, the song became even more intimate. Rather than singing about “chosen family” as an abstract idea, Sadao began imagining one person standing in front of him and singing directly to them: *you’re alright now*.

That simple shift changed the whole way he approached the song.

Meet Sadao, the next singer in our Meet the Soloists series, and discover why Rina Sawayama’s *Chosen Family* found its place in our Molly House. 🏳️‍🌈🎶

Five Brighton choirs have already said yes to Blackpool 2027. 💖

Actually Gay Men’s Chorus (@actuallygmc), Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus (@brightongmc) , Brighton Rox (@brightonroxchoir) , Rainbow Chorus (@rainbowchorus) and Resound Voices (@resound_voices) — we’re very glad you’re coming.

Between them, 188 performers singing with these choirs joined us in Bristol 2024.

Now it’s Brighton → Blackpool.

Different coast. Same choir chaos.
