Loving life and always looking on the bright side here in Ashland, OR ❤️
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
In July I taught a foundation paper piecing class at my local Project Linus chapter. It went really well, but I didn’t take one photo. 😆 These are the samples I made, they made a square-in-square block with dogs, cats, or turtles and I brought several sample blocks and quilts I’ve made with FPP to show them how detailed and fun it can be. by @brightsidequilts

Not my normal quilt share. The first photo is from 33 years ago on my wedding day. My husband designed my wedding dress, and my mom made it for me. There was a lot of love in that garment. She sewed clothes for us kids to save money when I was young. She’s let me play with the scraps. She was never a quilter, but I think I love the sound of a sewing machine because of her (and her mom). She had a stroke 11 years ago and was diagnosed with dementia shortly after. She passed away July 19, on her 81st birthday. She was a huge fan of every quilt I made, and I’m grateful for the love she showed me in so many ways, including making a custom wedding dress just for me. 💕 by @brightsidequilts

My sister, Stephanie, saw a shirt recently, asked if she could take a pic and shared it with me. She’s visiting for the 4th weekend so we bought a t-shirt and used fabric from my stash to make one for her. First time I think I’ve sewn on a stretchy t-shirt, but it came out nice! by @brightsidequilts

I finished my Project Linus Make A Blanket day quilt. I used an @angelafmq flower meander quilting technique that gave the quilt such a beautiful texture. by @brightsidequilts

Saturday was wonderful! There were over 50 participants in this year’s Project Linus Make a Blanket day. We met at the Ruch Firehouse, had a delicious BBQ lunch, and sewed and talked for hours. I didn’t take many photos and missed taking one with Anita, but she, Barb, Tami and I sat together. I also won a fun basket of fabric, patterns, books and more fun stuff. I’ll share a photo of the quilt when I get it finished. by @brightsidequilts

Finished my 3rd crumb quilt. There’s something so satisfying about using the small bits of fabric and the memories of previous quilts I’ve made. by @brightsidequilts

Lots of excitement this past week! Monday and Tuesday I helped with the judging for the Mountain Starts Quilt show (taking notes, holding, and folding 231 quilts with a great crew). Friday and Saturday I helped in the make and take booth during the show. I entered 5 quilts plus 1 challenge quilt. I received a 2nd place ribbon on my So Many Stripes! quilt from a @libselliott class called Dynamic Stripes. I received an honorable mention for my improv Leftovers 1 quilt. My others didn’t receive ribbons but I’m still super proud of them… Improv Clamshells from a @carolina_oneto class, Dragon Wheel from an @lovebugstudios pattern, Nightingale from @loandbeholdstitchery, and my row-by-row quilt from the Rogue Modern Quilters guild challenge. by @brightsidequilts

I’m midway through an 8-week sabbtical from work and enjoyed spending part of the time reorganizing my fabric. I also bought a used 8-drawer filing cabinet for most of my solids. It’s not “showroom” worthy, but it’s definitely my happy place. by @brightsidequilts

I spent 4 wonderful days on a retreat in Gold Beach with folks from the Rogue Modern Quilters. There were a 17 of us in total, but I didn’t manage to get a group pic before some left. There were lots of laughs, beautiful sunsets, and lots of prime sewing time. I prepped the next Death Head Moth and got a good start. Barb made a great No Kings t-shirt, but I forgot to get a pic of my Fight Fascism shirt. by @brightsidequilts

I had an opportunity to teach inset circles to a group of folks from Project Linus on Tuesday morning. It went really well and everyone did an excellent job! by @brightsidequilts
