Homemade Asian-style chicken noodle rice w/ brown rice noodles, chicken w/ garlic & ginger powder, carrots, snow peas, onions, bell peppers, and cabbage w/ minced garlic, fresh ginger, Korean chili paste, and a little coconut aminos cooked in chicken broth.😋😋 Usually don’t try this hard but worth eating food with a different consistency and making it in bulk so that I can get like four meals out of it. Thankful for roommates who know how to cook.😂 Buying pre-cut veggies is also the move even though we actually cut them all. Minced garlic or garlic powder is always a good move to add flavor from what little cooking knowledge I have lol.👍🏻💪🏻🖤 by @brigittesmithfit

Lat foam rolling: The latissimus dorsi spans the lower thoracic vertebrae, all lumbar vertebrae, crest of ilium, the lower four ribs and the inferior angle of your scapula to your proximal humerus. It functions to extend, adduct, horizontally abduct, and internally rotate the arm. Sitting with rounded shoulders all day can cause these muscles to be tight as well as working them. Tight lats can inhibit you from reaching overhead (shoulder flexion) as well as contributing to internally rotated shoulders. If you try an overhead squat and can’t keep your arms up overhead, your lats are probably tight. If so, try foam rolling your lats as shown before working back or shoulders (or other overhead exercises) so that you can reach full ROM on back exercises or so that your shoulder mobility isn’t limited. by @brigittesmithfit

Lifting/life progression (time and consistency, for real)
1. March 2013 Never lifted before, had been consistently running for 4 years, took diet pills, would start binging and purging when I was drunk. About 150lbs.
2. Oct 2015: 1 year after lifting consistently and starting to meal prep, lifted 15-20 reps on everything because I didn’t want to get “big”. 160lbs, I think.
3. 6 mo. Into lifting heavy (trying 1 rep maxes for the first time) and having a coach/friend (@the_wardak) that perfected my form and taught me how to program and really push myself (turned my 1.5-2 hour lifting sessions into an hour & got the same amount done lol😳) and finally feeling confident af with lifting and my body image. About 170lbs.
4. June 2017 1.5 years into lifting heavy and could bench 225 for 1, dead 315 for 1, and squat 295 for 2. 175lbs.
5. Aug 2018 2.5 years into lifting heavy and consistently hitting the same maxes but benched 235, 315 for 2 on deads. 175lbs
6. July 2019 after not lifting for a couple months after having back spasms but hit the chiropractor and basically did just machines on legs and routinely went to the chiropractor and then started doing pause deads with a 10 on each side and then 25’s and in Nov., hit 245 for 10 on deads😏 185lbs by @brigittesmithfit

Apparently lifting makes you manly so I went and benched more than most guys do. #245 three jobs but I live for lifting and helping others find their love for it too. #womenwholiftheavy #womenwhobench #strongwomen #lift by @brigittesmithfit

Recorded some of my chest crusher on chest/arm day the other day! Little max out at 235 (got 245 halfway on the next set). Followed up maxing out with a killer drop set (sped up) of 60-35 superset with dips. Supersets increase the intensity and you also get a bomb workout in an hour or even less...win-win.;) Used to skip chest day but now I bench more than most males.🤷🏼‍♀️😏 #dontskipanyday #femalesthatbench #chestday by @brigittesmithfit

Little self-conscious (14-month) transformation because I went from my strongest and basically most shredded to barely meal-prepping because I ate in a cafeteria for 8 and a half months and got used to not cooking. I had back spasms for months from overactive hip flexors (on top of lots of running) and was only remedied with muscle relaxers. Gained almost 10 lbs but my butt is bigger, so that’s cool😂 I’ve been really self-conscious about having more cellulite on my legs but I’m getting back to being more disciplined (not that cellulite isn’t completely normal) and finally deadlifting over 200 lbs for 15 reps and without pain!!! Whatever you do, do what makes you happy and with confidence and take pride in your hard work. I’m just grateful for my chiropractor and being able to do what I love again, without fear.💪🏻💪🏻 (Still bench 235 and beat guys in arm wrestling at Pete’s though. Period). taken in Boulder, Colorado by @brigittesmithfit

Leg day is my favorite day!!! Split-leg squats (a regression to a lunge) are a great way to work on muscular imbalances since you’re working one leg at a time (a unilateral exercise). They are a compound exercise engaging the quads and hamstrings working at the knee and hip joints and glutes at the hip joint. Your back, abs, and calves act as stabilizers. Sometimes I superset them with squats to burn out both legs after working each individually. Happy hump dayyyy! 🍑 🍑 💪🏻💪🏻 #neverskiplegs by @brigittesmithfit

Back day is the best day...after leg day.😉 According to Doctor Yessis in his article, “Wide Grip Pull-Up,” the primary muscles working at the shoulder joint in a wide-grip pull-up are the upper lats, lower pec major, and the teres major. These muscles allow for adduction of the arms, which means moving the arms from a T-position in towards the torso. The short head of the biceps assists these muscles but is not as prevalent in the overhand grip. Other assisters include; the corachobrachialis, subscapularis, and long head of the triceps. As for the shoulder girdle, the rhomboids and pectoral is minor allow for downward rotation of the shoulder blades. The upper trapezius and levator scapulae muscles of the neck act to elevate the shoulders blades. He also emphasizes that a wider grip will focus on your upper lats (the “wings”). (Dr. Yessis). Pull-ups are important because they are a compound exercise recruiting many muscles working together simultaneously. Also, most people lack strength in their back muscles due to poor posture and neglecting to train it. .

Make sure to keep good posture with your chest out and shoulders back as with every exercise. Initiate the exercise by pulling your shoulders down and out and then pulling yourself up (make sure to keep your core engaged). .
