For a long time, becoming an Ironman felt like one of those things I thought about more than I truly believed I could do. But somewhere between the 5am workout alarms, training between flights and long workdays, squeezing in long runs before meetings, and reorganizing my entire life around swimming, biking, running, and lifting, this goal stopped feeling hypothetical.

And then race day came, and Jacksonville absolutely humbled me. The heat was unbearable, the wind somehow always in your face, and those bridges and ramps felt personal by the end. It was harder than I ever expected it to be, but somewhere in all of it, I found parts of myself I didn’t know existed.

What surprised me most was that such a deeply personal race was impossible to finish without the people around me. The quiet conversations with strangers on the run just trying to keep each other moving. The woman beside me before the swim squeezing my arm and saying, “you got this, one stroke at a time,” because I was a nervous wreck. Neighbors outside cheering into the dark hours of the night like every single athlete mattered to them. The volunteer who hugged a sweaty (& definitely smelly), emotional version of me and insisted I was doing great when I was barely holding it together.

And then, after all of it, hearing “Brianna, you are an Ironman.”

Still not sure that’s fully sunk in yet, but I know it changed something in me for good.
