See you Friday!

p.s. If you all like this one, we will make some more rompers, I guess :)

How is your Halloween costume planning going?

I’m here as your Costume Concierge 🛎️

If you are looking for a specific B&T pattern, drop a comment!

Today I am sketching my first pass at the older one’s costume, with the ringer tee, turtleneck, pocket shorts, and footed leggings as components.

It may be one of the last years we do a family costume (we were a flamboyance of 🦩 last year), so it’s time to start sewing.

Join our FB group for more DIY kid costume ideas in the archives (link in bio)

Every pattern on the site has been used for dress-up at some point in our 16 years, and most of us try to sew layers that double as real clothes after the fact 🎃

[UPDATE: You said yes to this dress. Find the tester form link in today’s Story] 💛 You asked us to make the kids birthday 🎂 dress into grown-up sizes. What do you think? Should we make this dress?

I call it The Dreamcake Dress 🍰, for all your occasions with cake. (But the dreamcake is YOU, obviously.)

If you’re into the dress, please ‘save’ this post (it’s that flag on the right side above these words) - that is your signal to me that you are interested.

In the yellow version, you see the maxi length with ruffle and gathered cap sleeves in a 95/5 cotton knit.

In the last slide, I made a knee-length version (there is a shorter ruffle you can add too) in a navy wool knit. I made the sleeves in illusion so you can see the shape — there is also a 3/4 bell sleeve option. This one is very much a toile, but I think it’s helpful to see how it moves.

Please send me messages, save the post if you’re interested in this one, leave comments, I read everything. And I still think you’re a dreamcake even if you’re not into the dress 👗

If we get a clear, positive yes for this one, I will link to a tester form tomorrow 🗳️

A little spooky sew for a babe I have not met yet, who is almost a year old. Whenever you finish that baby sew for a friend (even when it graduates into a toddler sew), it counts :)

I find placing snaps so fun (much faster than buttonholes, though the coverall pattern is made for buttons too). Do you make it with buttons or snaps?

Fabric is Moon Owl poplin from Birch Fabrics and the Taos shop I found it at is not on IG (but is called Taos Adobe Quilting and is great, right in the town plaza).

I hope all your sews this month are hauntingly great 🦉

🍃🍂In the Atlanta airport, there is a ‘Plane Train’ that ferries you to and from the terminals, and I secretly call these my Plane Train pants because they have no hardware and a shorter elastic in the waist. I wore these to travel last week.

Officially, these are our Weekend Pants, and they are made for poplins like the ones on the left, and will work with other lightweight wovens like the plaid wool on the right.

I underlined the wool pants with silk habotai, it’s nice for this shoulder season into the holidays. I cannot deal with any fabrics that do not breathe, especially for linings.

The merino wool tank in our new Grown-Up Tank pattern is going to be my winter layer later in the year, and right now it works for school night events.

(Third slide is a little behind-the-scenes, these pants can do side yard gardening when necessary. Please ignore the weeds, I may get to that this week…)

(Did you know @brindilletwig has a new sister pattern line from the 70s? Hi, we’re Withy 🕊️)

~Spent the Harvest Moon weekend on the Turquoise Trail with my sister, as artists opened up their studios and talked about their process. Inspiring.

I made this kaftan for the occasion, the pattern is coming in October. I’ve been finishing a few long swirly patterns and will need you to test them, please, pretty soon.

Sign up for letters from Withy at the link in bio~

And thank you to my friend Natalie for the new sage for the new season. The fabric is from @_sewbysew_ (all deadstock)

UPDATE: Thank you for all the interest! Testers will be emailed September 29th. / New pattern test call! 🎂 We made a new knit dress pattern for all the birthdays, holiday photos, school pictures, princess costumes, flower girl outfits, and special occasions.

My very particular daughter loves this one because we have worked on the details for so long: facing for the collar, hemmed or elasticized sleeve cuffs, long or short sleeves with gathered sleeve caps for some pouf, an optional bottom ruffle, and a V waist dip for comfort under a seat belt and just for fanciness.

Swipe for the video so you can see the twirl factor. The back is closed because we believe you don’t need to cut fabric out of a dress back for kids. They are plenty cute with their daily thoughtful gestures and sparkling wit.

Would you like to test this with us? Sizes 12-18 months to 14Y. Testing form link in the story.

What fun to finally be able to show you this pattern :)

Have a special sew to share today – @sewfleming14 made this fantastic grown-up romper and tank, and I just love the joy.

I knew it would be a great sew, and I am so into this pomegranate fabric.

Pomegranates are a beautiful fruit and symbolize wisdom and renewal, exactly what I want to take into the new season.

We made the tank neckline to go with romper neckline and I think you can see here how these patterns are partners.

And yes to the tag, @sewfleming14 and this sew are one of a kind.
