I haven’t ever stopped to reflect fully on my past six years modeling. So yesterday I gave myself time to look back on some really special moments amidst all your messages.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your support yesterday, throughout my career, and in the small ways everyday with a simple heart. Living a life I once dreamed of is largely possible because of this loving, beautiful community. by @briscalesse

The reason so many of us share disabled joy is because the world has never let us celebrate for more than a moment. The narrative that disability and misery are synonymous tries to nestle into our disabled bones as we are told not to take up too much space. And that’s why disabled people continue to flood your feeds. Because our best chance to be heard is through our own channels, our own voices, our own stories.

That weight is heavy. To constantly prove yourself, to constantly show up. For me this looks like mostly sharing moments of joy, beauty, community. Because the weight of sharing the every single day battles often feels crushing.

The good, despite it all, coexists with the endless struggles. I’m thinking of all of our disabled ancestors who have passed. Who held both. Who made the world a brighter, more profound place. Who deserved better. by @briscalesse
