Yalies and friends brunched at our annual Yale in Hollywood - Super San Diego Breakfast on Sat July 26, 10a at the Broken Yolk Cafe - Gaslamp Downtown San Diego during San Diego Comic-Con. Featured guests Brian Siegel (Disney Consumer Products) and Nicole Dubuc (Animation showrunner) described how they got into the industry, what they do, and their SDCC appearances. - Brian Siegel, VP, Disney Consumer Products Marvel and Star Wars. If you see Marvel or Star Wars characters on clothing, merchandise, food, etc. his team probably approved it. - Nicole Dubuc, Animation Showrunner / EP / writer on Unicorn Academy, Rocketeer, and Star Wars and Transformers shows. Sometimes everything in your life just merges into pure joy and pride. I met the incredibly talented Matt Shakman in college many years ago. We stayed friends and ran a small LA theater together. His family became my family and I have been so proud of all he has accomplished. At the same time, I had my career at Disney Consumer Products, having worked on the Marvel brand for the past 13 years. Last night, my husband and I sat at the World Premiere of a film I did the merchandise for that Matt directed. I have loved musicals since I was a kid growing up in NYC seeing shows with my Mom. I still see shows with my Mom and love musicals even more now. I have worked on shows throughout college and in LA, but never had a true part of a large-scale production until now. Yes, we’ve invested in a few, but, with Evita in the West End, Other Brian and I are now full Co-Producers. Sure, we don’t have creative input, but we are a bigger part of something incredible. Today officially marks my 30th anniversary at The Walt Disney Company. People know me now as the Disney or Marvel guy who goes to Disneyland twice a month, but that was all shaped from my professional life, not my childhood. I was a casual fan of Disney animated films and series as a kid, but it was working here that I truly grew to appreciate the Disney brand (and later the Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars brands), the Disney Parks, and what our brands mean to consumers. I can talk to anyone who wants to hear details about what it is like being at the same company continuously since college…especially a major corporation. In short, I Iove my job, but nothing about it has been easy. The brands are magical, my co-workers are fantastic (and some have become close friends for life), and I am always learning new things. Yet it has been a bumpy ride with many personal and professional challenges and tremendous pressures. I guess it is like Space Mountain, where it’s a fun ride, but scary since it is in the dark; however, the more you ride it, the more you know what to expect and when to pose for the photo at the end. I am not at the end of my career yet, so this is not the photo at the end, but a fun signpost of my incredible journey so far. taken in Disney Grand Central Creative Campus by @brisieg

I haven’t posted anything on social media about the passing of my good friend Todd back in April. He wasn’t really on social media (don’t get me started on that 😊) and I didn’t know what to say at the time. But today would have been his birthday, so I want to honor it. His birthday was always special to us. Holidays were his time with his wonderful family up North who he loved dearly, but his birthday was our time together, usually involving a trip (we did New York, Palm Springs a few times, and almost Hawaii). Here are some photos from past birthdays (Mark Kressel joined for many, and Todd had a few parties with his wonderful friends). Todd was the first friend I made in LA when I moved here 30 years ago. He is the reason I have my career, the reason I love the Disney Parks, and the reason I know West Hollywood. He was unique in many ways and was both fiercely loyal and could drive me crazy at times…that’s what true friends are. We were always there for each other and never left anything unsaid. I saw him two days before he died (for those who didn’t know, it was a heart event, which he knew he was battling) and I was there when he needed me the absolute most. Todd means so much to me and I will never stop thinking about him. by @brisieg

I’ve lived in LA for 30 years, but surprisingly have not been to Palm Springs much. I’ve been just seven times, all in the last five years. And it started because my good friend Todd loves it and we started a tradition to come on his birthday. Here is me and the birthday boy today. It is really beautiful here (note the waterfall in the background) and so relaxing. Now I just need to get other Brian here once. by @brisieg

25 years ago, I went on a first date with someone who would change my life. I don’t recall a lot about the date, but remember leaving thinking that I would spend the rest of my life with him. I was right (and I do love being right 😀). Other Brian has been by my side for half my life and I couldn’t be luckier.
