365 days sober today🤍

A year ago today, I made a decision that I honestly didn’t know would change my life as much as it has.

I didn’t stop drinking because I hit some dramatic rock bottom. I stopped because I wanted more from myself and from my life. I wanted to learn how to actually manage my anxiety instead of finding ways to quiet it. I wanted to be more present, grounded and intentional. I wanted to see what the best version of me could actually look like.

Losing my mom to suicide changed the way I look at mental health forever.

Grief has a way of forcing you to look at parts of yourself you may have been avoiding. Watching someone I loved struggle with her mental health, and ultimately losing her because of it, made me realize how seriously I needed to take care of my own.

So this year, I chose to feel it all.

The grief. The anxiety. The uncomfortable days. The celebrations. The stress. The wins. The heartbreak. The really fucking hard days.

All of it, without trying to numb any of it.

And somewhere along the way, I found a version of myself that I genuinely love.

I’ve become stronger, healthier, calmer, more confident and more comfortable in my own skin. I’ve pushed myself physically, grown tremendously in my career, traveled, laughed until my stomach hurt and walked into rooms I once would’ve needed a drink to feel comfortable in and realized I was more than enough exactly as I was.

Sobriety hasn’t made my life perfect. I still have anxiety. I still miss my mom every single day. Life still gets heavy.

But I’ve learned how to sit with those moments instead of running from them.

One year ago, I thought I was giving something up.

Turns out, I was getting myself back.

365 days. One whole year. And genuinely, the best version of me yet. 🤍
