skydive #️⃣✌️ to celebrate being one year alcohol-free

one year ago i spent yet another weekend in bed all day, hungover after a big night of drinking friday - on the saturday once i'd got home from brunch (that i'd peeled myself out of bed to get to), i left my room only to go to the bathroom and get my delivered pizza from the door. i can't remember what i did on the sunday but i imagine it was the same. when it got to monday and the hangover low was still lingering, i was done 🙅‍♀️ (this decision was made after a few years of trying to moderate and have times without drinking, it wasn't just the one night that was the reason i called it quits, but the sum of many nights like it). now one year later, i woke up fresh on saturday morning and got myself thrown out of a plane... at least the queazy feeling after is worth the thrill!

i wouldn't be who i am today without my drinking days, so many laughs and memories - mostly archived in my brain under black out. i'm happy to now know that i can navigate moments without alcohol and even more so proud of the decision i made last year. it's challenging at times for sure, but it feels right for me

6 years ago on this date i stood down on that beautiful golden sand as the sun was going down. basking in the sun today but also with a contentment in myself and how my life has been throughout those 6 years. the last 10 months is where i feel i've grown the most and am more present. as always, it's lovely being out of the city, see whānau, slow down (although my mum and i still rushed around the supermarket cos we knew what we were after, no need to be that 🐌) and take in some stunning views pretty much everywhere we look taken in Kaiteriteri by @britleymarie
