Slow, gentle movements help the body to feel safe and shift into the relaxed state of the nervous system (parasympathetic). Learning to come back to safety in my body again and again has been maybe the most important part of my long and winding journey of healing from chronic illness and PTSD. It’s a way I show myself love and care, and one of the ways I self parent my inner child. Whether in partnership or flying solo, remember to take sweet care of your own body and heart today ❤️❤️❤️ taken in Austin, Texas by @britta.mccrae

Quick and easy vagus nerve stimulation with gua sha to trigger the body’s relaxation response.
.
As someone who tends to be anxious, easily stressed and overwhelmed, (hi PTSD!) having tools to regularly bring my nervous system into a more balanced state is crucial. This one is also amazing for lymph, and comes from one of my teachers, @stopchasingpain ,who I have learned SO MUCH from, and I am so grateful for.

➡️ find the bone behind your ear (the mastoid process) stroke downwards from here, over the soft area below, and behind the angle of the jaw. Repeat 10x each side
.
If you’re interested in going deep on vagus nerve stimulation or Lymphatic drainage, for your own health and healing, or as a practitioner, I can’t recommend @stopchasingpain enough.

I’m trying to make sense of how the hell I got here. Wasn’t I just 33, living in NYC, attempting to girlboss and starting too many projects all at once?

This year I’ll turn 43. I moved from NY to LA, and then to Austin, and went through 6 years of chronic illness, followed by a difficult pregnancy and birth. I’ve been a full time mother to my 2 year old girl Suvi since she was born, recently separated from her dad, and we’re now living with my parents. My inner Compass is spinning madly, I’m looking at my map of my life, the 10 year plan I once had (lol)  trying to make sense of where I’ve been, where I’m arriving, and where the heck I’m going (and hoping it’s the Mediterranean).

What I’m orienting my compass to is GRATITUDE, to the gazillion silver linings, to the net that has caught me from falling, to my intuition that’s been surprising me on the daily. There’s a dense fog ahead, and I can’t see where my path is leading – But where I am is sunny, warm, and friendly. Where I am, my nervous system is finally able to get out of survival for the first time in a decade. Where I am I have support and a stocked fridge and a sweet little office nest just for me. THIS is all an answered prayer. This is the space and support I’ve been famished for. It just happened to be around a very different bend than I expected. by @britta.mccrae

A quick gua sha flow to depuff anytime, and great for the pregnancy puff! Stimulate lymphatic drainage with the @wildling_beauty empress stone 🤍 I’m so grateful that our products and practices are pregnancy safe! (The exception being that you don’t want to gua sha over the belly or shoulders! And go easy on pressure for body gua sha) by @britta.mccrae

There’s so much I have to say, and yet now that I’m finally sharing this, I can’t seem to find the words 🥹

Our little ♋️ girl will be joining us in early July, and we‘re already in love 💗

The first trimester was pretty horrible, and I’m finally coming out of the nausea fog 🙏🏼.
They say I should be getting my energy back soon, but I conceived after 5 years of chronic mono, and there wasn’t much energy to begin with 🤣 so my expectations are managed.

I‘m resting, sleeping, softening, growing, breathing and @wordsarevibrations has been the sweetest most supportive partner ☺️even when I was recently sobbing uncontrollably because we only had chocolate MOUSSE and I desperately required chocolate PUDDING

I’m so grateful that my 40 year old complex body is able to grow this tiny human that I’ve been preparing for for so long 🥹🫶🙏🏼

Shoutout to divine timing and to weekly acupuncture with @dr.jessicajackel_dacchm for „warming“ the uterus , also to @jenni.adishian for passing along this gorgeous @daughtersofindia dress to me 🫶 by @britta.mccrae

I reach down to pull on my bootstraps, pull myself up as I have a hundred times before — Sick, sad, broke or broken, a deadweight on the floor.

“ Not this time” I hear, not anymore. Now you must go barefoot down a path you have never gone before. Set aside your coffee and trash that new masterplan.

This time you go slow, and where you end up you cannot know. Follow the golden thread, the one you finally found after all those months stuck in bed. Feel the breeze on your skin, the earth beneath your feet. Only this way ONLY THIS WAY will you feel complete.

Learning how to work with my nervous system states is changing my life, helping me heal my chronic illness, and changing how I experience my own life. “Our underlying physiological state shapes our perspective of the world” - Stephen Porges (polyvagal theory pioneer)
.
Maybe next time I’m voo breathing at a red light, you’ll be voo breathing somewhere in the world too 🩵
.
I almost didn’t post this bc the angle is unflattering and my inflammation (puffiness) is showing. But sharing real life tools that can calm anxiety and shift how you experience the world is more important 🩵 even if just one person starts vooing and benefitting✨

Finding my flow in the treatment room again ✨ Hands at first awkward, like a baby deer learning to walk, but soon smoothly galloping through open meadows. After nearly four years out of the treatment room, she’s back! My thousands of hours and many years of previous work kicking back in. Links in bio for:
