POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Congratulations to our team and the students at @pvamu, @texassouthern and @universityofhouston for completing the inaugural @abc13houston Journalism Lab.

We hosted 16 juniors and seniors studying journalism for a one-day workshop. Not only was it awesome to see students connecting with our amazing leaders and colleagues, but I walked away with so many enriching takeaways from these young journalists, too.

Thank you to every single person who committed to this lab. Every single role at a TV station matters, and we can't serve our communities without each of you. I am super grateful. And as I learned, it was a vision our late news director Rehan had years ago of bringing students in for a hands-on experience. I'm grateful we could bring it to life, and I believe you all made him proud.

Way to go! taken in ABC 13 (KTRK-TV) by @brittaneyabc13

@abc13houston loves teachers! THANK YOU to our generous communities, sponsors, @disney VoluntEARS our amazing ABC13 team, and most of all, our teachers! We have raised $33,000+ for school supplies to go to our local teachers through the @houstonfoodbank’s School Programs, and we aren’t done yet. You can still donate by texting ABC13Teachers to 71777. 📚🎒✏️ taken in Houston Food Bank by @brittaneyabc13

Texas Southern University and the University of Houston are more than neighbors in Third Ward. Students at both campuses played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights movement.

Before she retired, former ABC13 anchor Melanie Lawson talked to some of the former students who laid the groundwork for the community and academic programs we know today. Through Melanie's interviews, ABC13's Brittaney Wilmore looks at the student activism that made the way for change. by @brittaneyabc13

I’m still in awe at how beautiful – and intentional – every detail of the @ismailicenterhou is! A huge thank you to our longstanding community partners at the Ismaili Council for welcoming @abc13houston for a visit. The Houston location is home to the first Ismaili Center in the U.S., and it is just the 7th in the world. What a privilege to have this space in our own backyard. The center is open to all in the community!

Another cool fact: The center was designed by a woman-led firm and architect @farshidmoussavi.

I love taking pictures, but don’t always remember to post them 🙃 so here’s a few from today for no reason other than being thankful for another day and that being reason enough to smile! Bonus: thank you to @the_meshers and @samicaknightabc13 for sharing their beautiful smiles and lighting up the room! by @brittaneyabc13

BEST. DAY. EVER.

We couldn’t be prouder of the Paige Elementary students who are taking center stage in their own production of “The Lion King,” thanks to the Disney Musicals in Schools Program and @tutshouston. These kids are history makers!

@disney surprised these hard workers with goodies and activities during a pep rally Thursday and @abc13houston couldn’t be more grateful to be part of the big reveal.

Thank you to the magic makers, the amazing Disney voluntEARS, our friends at the @disneystore Cypress, Disney CSR and @donorschoose - because that doesn’t happen without you! I also want to give a big thank you to the ABC13 team members who pitched in to organize the surprise gifts at the station and get it to Paige! I appreciate you @reallyisfran, @brandon_j_benton, @stephbecerraa, @brianaabc13, @mamachapa, @marilyn_acosta, @mrjohnkinzie, @beegidd, Victor!!) You made a huge impact!

But we must honor Paige Elementary’s leadership - they give selflessly to their students to ensure they shine like the royalty they are. Thank you Principal Cole, Ms. Randolph, Ms. Cena, Ms. Ashley and Ms. Berry. Thank you to our TEACHERS!

We see you and this is why we do what we do! taken in Houston, Texas by @brittaneyabc13

Thank you to everyone who came out to our 19th annual ABC13 Earth Day E-Cycle Drive and to our hardworking team and CompuCycle crew! The community always shows up in a huge way, and this year was no different! And loved seeing electronics brought in, from the TV sets to the turntables!
