THE LAST RESPONDER
Finding light in the dark
By: Brittany DeMarco-Furman, Licensed Funeral Director

My writing means so much to me. Not only is it based on my authentic experience as a funeral director, it brings the reader on a journey of finding something new and unexpectedly beautiful from death.

Finding the light in darkness is easier said than done. Resilience doesn’t come easy. In my chapter I am tested, endure heartbreak, and ultimately discover a tool to help the reader (and myself) find purpose in grief and loss.

My journey to connecting and healing will continue after this book @buriedinconversation you’ll see where all my branding shoot images end up in the 🌎 #manifesting

Many of you have watched me grow from a wild teenager to who I am today. Thank you everyone who has been apart of my journey, especially to those who never wavered from believing in me and supported every jump and fall I’ve made. Growing up in the funeral business has given me the best advice of all, never take life for granted.

And if you didn’t know, I am a full time licensed director at my family owned and operated funeral home @glenvillefuneralhome

And if you need comic release, you can continue laughing with me on my personal IG account @brittanythegreat —still growing up, obviously!

September 2026 🍂🚌New school, new friends, new experiences—and a little girl who seems to have grown up so much in just one month.

Madison, you amaze me every day. You are so smart, and watching your confidence bloom has been the sweetest part of this new chapter. Then there’s your humor—you keep me laughing with that silly, sweet personality that is so curious of the world around you. How lucky am I that this little girl, my best friend, is also my daughter? Even though getting her ready in the morning can be challenging, I appreciate her love for fashion!

And to my husband, our september highlight involves you kidnapping me at taco bell. We will look back on this memory in wheelchairs and drop dead laughing so hard. by @brittanythegreat

We packed so much adventure into just a few hours at the world-famous San Diego Zoo! 🐘🌴 From soaring over the park on the Skyfari, exploring countless animals within the lush and beautiful park, to climbing to the treetops and stopping for a delicious lunch at Albert’s Restaurant—it was the perfect day.

The zoo’s landscaping was unforgettable! We could have spent the entire day there, but we made every minute count. Biggest tip: get there when the gates open and get right on the tram, that helped us see much of the park and map out where we wanted to go, plus the animals were active in the morning! #adventureawaits #socal #sandiegozoo #sandiego by @brittanythegreat

To infinity and beyond…🚀✨

As she takes off on her biggest adventure yet, kindergarten—I can’t help but remember the tiny baby we brought home from the hospital. Somehow, the days felt long, but the years flew by.

Watching her grow is the greatest privilege and the most bittersweet part of motherhood.

Go shine, sweet girl. I’ll always be there when you need me, to infinity and beyond. #firstdayofschool #kindergarten by @brittanythegreat
