Over the past decade, Break Through Tech, an initiative that began at Cornell Tech, has been training, empowering, and connecting high potential undergraduate students to influential tech opportunities that are reshaping our world. In partnership with 300+ industry organizations, Break Through Tech has served more than 11,000 students across 300+ universities. One of the goals of Cornell Tech’s unique campus environment is to foster the incubation of new ventures and we are proud of the role Cornell Tech has played in supporting the growth of Break Through Tech over the past ten years. Now, as Break Through Tech becomes an independent nonprofit, we celebrate this important milestone and all that has made it possible. This independence is a testament to the strength and maturity of the organization. Congratulations to Break Through Tech! We look forward to watching their continued growth and success. “Breaking down barriers because the future of AI depends on who gets to shape it.” – Judith Spitz, PhDTen years ago, Judy recognized a challenge in the tech ecosystem: too many talented students were being left on the sidelines. Driven by a desire to fix this broken pipeline, she founded Break Through Tech at Cornell Tech. Judy has spent the past decade reimagining the pathways to power and influence in technology, ensuring that anyone with talent, potential, and passion can not only participate in tech but lead it. Her work goes beyond technical training, focusing on creating opportunities, fostering networks, and shaping the culture of the tech industry.Since 2016, Break Through Tech has transformed the landscape for young technologists. Over 11,000 students from over 300 universities have participated in our programs, with half of our fellows being first-generation college students. Through partnerships with hundreds of companies across technology, finance, healthcare, and beyond, students gain not just technical skills but real-world experience that prepares them to lead. About three-quarters of those who complete a Break Through Tech program go on to secure internships or full-time roles in tech, building careers in software engineering, AI, data science, and product management.As we celebrate this 10-year milestone, we honor Judy’s vision and her relentless drive to shape the next generation of tech leaders. And as we look to the future, we are inspired by the undergraduate students who will shape the next decade of innovation and lead with purpose. by @brkthroughtech
