“I was blessed to have my grandma with me for 40 years — and wow, what a gift that truly was. She was from Barbados, and she brought the island with her wherever she went. The scents of fried plantains and her fresh blueberry muffins filled our home with comfort, while her island dishes carried not just flavor, but love in every bite.

Her laughter was music, her Bajan accent a melody I’ll always hear in my heart. She raised my sister and me with patience and strength, guiding us through our teenage years with lessons that shaped the women we became. Gosh we needed that teaching and I thank god for her! She was our rock.

One of the most powerful moments of my life was having her walk me down the aisle at my wedding — a memory forever etched in love and pride.

She wasn’t just my grandma; she was home, she was joy, she was wisdom. And though she’s no longer here, her spirit, her food, her laughter, and her love live on in me. Forever grateful, Grandma. 🌴🏝️🇧🇧🇵🇦🌺 by @brnsknma
