4/26/27 - Shot 22
.
Two weeks ago today, I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Recklessness, selfishness, ignorance, and so much more lead me here. And I never want to go back.
.
Reflecting on the season, it’s been awesome, and so so terrible. Snow pack, snow levels, accidents, deaths, countless close-calls (including a few of my own). So many signs right in front of me, and unfortunately I’ve taken them lightly.
.
Coming off an absolutely epic trip in Cooke City, MT, it started snowing again here in the Wasatch. Pumped to ride more pow, my group went into Sunday morning with not much of a plan. In the lot, Shot 22 was mentioned. And absolutely planted in my head, I was committed. During our tour, it was snowing, with 8-12” of fresh over night.

My group had decided to ride something else and at that point, we split off, staying in radio communication. (major mistake) I was telling myself, “I’m only going to look”, clearly lying. As I reached the top, of course it looked great. (Still ignoring 🚩’s as it continued snowing)
.
I’ve never rode this line, had no clue how tight it would get, nor did I have an exit plan. Hell, I had no clue what the exit looked like or that I’d need to turn right to avoid rocks and cliffs.
.
I feel incredibly lucky to have survived this, let alone be able to walk out with a bruised back and ribs. Last few weeks have been miserable. Many moments I wasn’t sure If I’d ever step on another skin track. Guilt and shame have washed over me. I feel like I’ve let my family, friends, and this amazing community of backcountry travelers down.

Had eyes on this wall day 1. Steepest thing I’ve been on. Thanks @vertsrule 🤘🏼 Probably needed another tool or two to make it over the rock solid cornice at the top. Experienced some frustration and one of the scariest strap-ins of my life, but this full pull is what I live for… 🤠🤤🫠
