POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When doors weren’t opening for Sangeetha Gowda and Marshall-Weishuai Yuan, they decided to open their OWN doors - the Sydney couple started their production company @noah__films and created ‘Broke Actor’, the eye-opening (and hilarious) web series that’s got everyone talking about typecasting, micro-aggressions and the many challenges diverse talent face.

They chat to us about the real-life experiences that inspired the show, what they wish the world knew about diverse creatives, and why they never gave up on their dreams, and you shouldn’t either!✨

How we made @brokeactorseries on a micro budget🎬👉
This series was the product of over 7 years of consistent film creation on multiple low-no budgets. Working this way forces you to get creative, and the more you do it - the more you learn tips, tricks and what does or doesn’t work. You also learn to jump into any role you need to in order to get the project done.
.
It’s not easy work that’s for sure, and when people only see the finished product they don’t often understand how hard it was to get to that point.
.
But if you have the belief and persistence in your work and a true love for the craft of film - nothing can stop you from creating something you’re truly proud of.
.
I recently watched an interview with Ryan Coogler where he was asked, “Is Sinners the best film you’ve ever made?” Ryan’s answer stuck with me, “When I made Fruitvale Station - that was the best film I could make at that time, when I made Black Panther - that was the best film I could make at that time, now l’ve made Sinners - this was the best film I could make at this time. Each time I was being the most honest that I could.” Sometimes we’re so busy chasing ‘better’ we forget that we are constantly growing and evolving in our filmmaking journey.
.
This is our biggest, most honest work to date, titled ‘BROKE ACTOR’, a 7 part Comedy-Drama web series inspired by our lives.
.
I’m proud of what we’ve achieved thus far and can’t wait to continue creating. You can catch the series on the @noah__films YouTube channel ~

Thank you @lawebfest2026 for selecting us in this year’s festival!! It’s an honour to be screening in the world’s first Web Series Festival, founded by pioneer Michael Okwudilk Ajakwe Jr 🙏 Michael’s mission to champion independent film voices, creating high quality work without budgets and outside the studio system - is a huge inspiration to us and big reason why we went ahead to create @brokeactorseries , no budget, independently produced and distributed & championing Diverse talent in leading roles on screen in Australia 🧡🎬 thank you the the team behind the festival this means a lot 🙌
