Meet Bromo Artist, Alexis Irby!

What happens when the objects we overlook become the starting point for a story?

For Alexis, found objects, natural materials, and discarded fragments become the building blocks for sculpture that is playful, curious, and full of possibility. Based in Columbia, Maryland, she is a visual artist and educator whose practice draws inspiration from both nature and post-consumer objects.

At the heart of Alexis' practice is a simple but compelling idea: pay attention to what you encounter.

The Bromo Art Walk may be behind us, but the momentum isn't stopping!

We're keeping that spotlight shining on our Bromo artists with Baltimore Open Studio Tour Weekend, October 10 & 11, 10 AM–5 PM.

This time, slow down and go deeper: full days, working studios, and one-on-one time with the makers behind the work.

Inside the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower, you'll find:
📸 Jim Conyers — headshot & branding photographer capturing Baltimore's people at their most authentic

🌿 Rejjia Camphor — transdisciplinary artist, writer, and organizer whose work explores Black girlhood, ecology, memory, and healing

🧵 Sheila Crider — self-taught fiber and textile artist known for "Blackstraction," her signature take on abstract art through wall hangings and collage

And just down the street in our district, don't miss:
🎭 Bryan Robinson at The Black Genius Art Show — live drawing, wearable art, and a decade of bold, original Baltimore creativity

If Art Walk gave you a taste, this is your chance to come back, explore the studios, and really sit with the work. by @bromoartsdistrict

@brynmawrschool came on a field trip with us! Their French class has been digging into street art worldwide and got to delve deep on the art of the @bromoartsdistrict ! Starting at @lexington_market and posing with the sculpture of the one and only @reedbmoreart - to kickoff their journey. They got to experience the art of @theblackgeniusartshow , @gaiastreetart , @minacheonstudio , @jayfcoleman , @jahru , and Pablo Machioli as we traveled in and throughout the arts district. This fully fleshed out the unit they are experiencing in school and taking that work to the streets to experience it in the flesh! Many thanks to their teacher Sasha for booking us for a lovely cloudy cool day which make walking around such a pleasant experience :) - many other field trips are already reserved for this fall- reach out to reserve your date!! We do bus tours (you book the bus) as well! If you’re in baltimore city- be sure to check out @arts_every_day for their grants to cover the cost of your trip as they also will cover bussing! Grant window is open right now! #fieldtrip #education #educationmatters #artseducation taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @bromoartsdistrict
