One of my favorite ways to capture images that look like they came directly out of a movie scene is to incorporate props.

Adding a couple minimalistic items immediately provides an opportunity to have your subjects interact with the world around them rather than just each other. It’s a fool-proof way to add the type of variety that creates a strong overall gallery without even having to change locations as often as you normally would.

Including props does not have to mean lugging around a huge setup that creates more work for you. Like these images, something as simple as a blanket, a book, and an old film camera can transform a simple beach setting into a scene from your favorite music video. (Do people still watch those? Y or N 😂)

Expanding on yesterday’s post because backyard weddings just do it for me. I have brides concerned with their wedding looking “cheap” if they don’t spend 15-20k on a venue, but there are so many ways to elevate a backyard wedding so that your photos turn out gorgeous and your guests have a blast. Family property weddings are NOT for the faint of heart!! I highly, highly recommend hiring a wedding planner to coordinate all the moving parts so that every aspect is thought of and prepared for before you get started with hiring other vendors. If you need help, I can’t recommend @bespokeeventsmi more!! Rebekkah thinks of everything and is such a joy to work with. If I had a huge party to plan, she’d be my first call 😉

2025 was a big year of change for me and I took a big break from social media, but allowing myself that break helped me fall in love with my work in a way that didn’t require any outside perspectives, and I think that’s p cool. This was the first shoot I did last year and sharing it now feels like the perfect way to reemerge from the shadows I was comfortably hiding in. HIIIII BBYS I’M BACKKKK. 💘

Sick to report that this session is from summer of 2024😬😂😭. The last coupla years were weird, okay?! But I love these photos just as much now as I did back them, especially the people in them🥲. I photographed Kara’s sister’s engagement photos twice (?!), and was honored to be there to hide in the trees when Carsen proposed. Planning this engagement session was so fun and felt like a family affair. So excited for these two cuties to tie the knot this year. And if you’re a GR girlie who needs a bomb hairstylist, @hairxkaitt is your girl!!

The first Lake Michigan session of the season did not disappoint😍. Living so close to my favorite body of water will be one of the things I miss most about living in GR, but I’ll still be making lots of trips 1-2x per month so I can still create rom com photoshoots with all of you!

When you’re planning your first wedding, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the different options each vendor offers. I get asked often if a couple should or shouldn’t opt for a second photographer, but it really just depends on how important variety is to you. Quality over quantity, ALWAYS, but more photos to choose from will inevitably mean more quality when narrowing down your final gallery. From different perspectives and vantage points, to different lenses and techniques, one thing I CAN guarantee is that you’ll never regret opting for a second photographer. @morgangust_ was my right-hand man for this Traverse City wedding and UGH, how I wish we worked together for every wedding. I seriously have the most talented friends in the industry.💞
