I would like to extend my welcome and congratulations to Anthony Shorris, the newly appointed President, and to Lina Khan, the newly appointed Chair of the Board of Directors of our New York City Economic Development Corporation.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation plays a critical role in shaping the economic future of our borough and city by investing in our local infrastructure, advancing transformative capital projects in our communities, creating good-paying union jobs with opportunities for economic mobility, and strengthening neighborhoods across all five boroughs.

In the Bronx, we have an opportunity to advance long-awaited projects that will create jobs, improve quality of life, and strengthen our local economy. From reimagining the Kingsbridge Armory and modernizing the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center to advancing the Blue Highways initiative and developing the Hunts Point Marine Terminal, these investments can transform our borough for generations by establishing pathways to careers that support families, expanding support for small businesses and emerging sectors, revitalizing our watertront, reducing truck congestion in environmental justice areas such as Hunts Point, and reimagining underutilized areas as lively destinations for recreation, cultural engagement, and economic development.

We look forward to partnering with President Anthony Shorris, Board Chair Lina Khan, Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and the entire EDC team to ensure the Bronx continues to receive the investment and attention it deserves. By working together, we can deliver projects that create lasting economic opportunity and improve the lives of our Bronx residents.

We were proud to stand alongside Mayor Mamdani, Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su, and SBS Commissioner Kenny Minaya today for the announcement of OPEN for Small Business, a bold initiative introducing more than 50 reforms to cut red tape, modernize regulations, and make it easier for entrepreneurs to start, operate, and grow their businesses across New York City.

In the Bronx, many of our small businesses are family-owned and immigrant-owned businesses that have served our neighborhoods for generations. They deserve a government that works with them, not against them, and to be treated with the dignity and respect they have earned through years of serving our communities.

🐶 A new space for our four-legged Bronxites is officially open!

🐾We were proud to join NYC Parks, community leaders, and local residents for the ribbon cutting of the Kathleen Duffy Corrigan Dog Run at Van Cortlandt Park.

🐾This beautiful new dog run provides a safe, welcoming place for dogs to play, exercise, and socialize and is named after a beloved Woodlawn advocate who was a driving force behind the dog run’s creation.
