Tiger Lily: 3 weeks, a zillion plot twists, and one very happy ending

Our sweet Tiger Lily has officially been ADOPTED! 🥹❤️

When this goofy, gangly Labradoodle arrived in the Boogie Down BX after a journey from TN, in her first week we navigated a UTI, tapeworms, mystery eye issues, vomiting, and some truly spectacular gastrointestinal distress. One night involved me sleeping on the couch fully dressed, boots and coat on, ready for approximately FIFTEEN emergency bathroom trips. Glamorous stuff, this fostering world 😅

But through it all? Tiger Lily was pure sunshine.

Once she started feeling better, her personality came BURSTING out. We’re talking airborne zoomies resulting from spontaneous dance parties, with a dog who seemed convinced that her foster parents were just two big, upright playmates.

She initially barked at our reflections in picture frames, was deeply suspicious of the television, and had very little understanding of household manners. But she was SO eager to learn! In no time, she went from learning her own name to understanding sit, paw, come, off, heel, and even wiping her perpetually soaking-wet beard after drinking water. For real!

Tiger Lily was adopted while we were away on vacation, so we never got our proper goodbye. That part makes us sadder than we expected. But I guess fostering has to be a little less selfish and more about helping a dog get ready for her next hello…

And Y’ALL, in just a few short weeks, Tiger Lily went from a sick, uncertain newcomer to a healthy, confident, affectionate girlie with a whole lifetime ahead of her.

We’re so proud of you, Tiger Lily. Thank you for letting us be your people for a little while. We loved every chaotic, hilarious, exhausting, wonderful minute. Happy tails, sweet [big] baby. You were worth every (well luckily there was only the one) sleepless night. by @bronxtailfosters

We’ve been fostering Tiger Lily and would LOVE to share more about her.

Tiger Lily is incredibly sweet, a little shy, smart, and playful.

We don’t know much about her background in Tennessee, but know that she is dog friendly, about 1 year old, and about 60 pounds.

From her time in casa BronxTailFosters, she’s been exposed to lots of new things, and is getting the hang of life as a city pup. She’s a super fast and smart learner, (she’s treat motivated) and ready to soak in any commands and training. New life, who dis?

Tiger Lily is a happy and curious girl. She’s down for game of tug and toss, to walk around and sniff all the things, and to lay down on the couch with you when you want to wind down.

On walks, Tiger Lily has the adorable habit of walking up to every garden statue to greet it 🥹 She’s curious to meet almost everyone that she passes — dogs and cats included 😆. She can be shy during human greetings despite asking to check out everyone who comments on how CUTE she is!

More to come as we learn even more about this adorable pup. I may not know everything about her yet, but feel free to comment if you have questions. She’s available to adopt via @pupstarzrescue if you’re within driving distance of NYC. by @bronxtailfosters

Had to take some time away from fostering, but we’re SO BACK! We welcomed Tiger Lily to casa BronxTailFosters this week.

The first few days with a new foster are often just spent helping them rest and get acquainted with us and our home. Tiger Lily is 1 year old, so she ain’t trying to REST, but she looks cute when she does 😅

More to come as we learn more about her personality!

It’s coooommmiiiiing!

I’m always excited to get a new little foster goober, but it might take a few days before the first fleshy post, and that’s by design!

Imagine a dog or cat has spent zero full days in their foster home and folks have already put in applications to adopt. But a few days might help the fosterer realize the pup isn’t housetrained, or is great with kids, or has a slight limp, or anything else that could be added to a bio (or even just info that might help the rescue find the best fit home or follow up for additional care or testing). These examples are super normal things for a fosterer to note, deal with, or work through.

These fostered pets are waiting for the rest of their lives (WITH YOU 😉), so this info buffer is short but clutch!

Today is our last day with Declan. 🧡

After 489 days in foster care, it’s time for him to head to his next foster home as we navigate some upcoming medical procedures that will make it difficult for me to give him the care he deserves right now.

Declan has been such a special part of our lives — goofy, expressive, stubborn in the most endearing ways, and so full of love. Watching him grow over the past year+ has been a privilege we don’t take lightly.

This isn’t the end of Declan’s story — just a new chapter. You can follow his journey with his new foster @angiet219, who will be sharing more of him as he continues his search for his forever home.

And for us, this isn’t goodbye to fostering — just a short pause. We’ll still be here, sharing Declan and other dogs who need homes, and we hope to welcome a new foster in a few months.

Declan is still adoptable through pupstarzrescue
Adoption fee: $0 (fully sponsored)

Let’s get him home. 🐾 by @bronxtailfosters

Dakota and Shoshana: the beauty of fostering

“The first dog I fostered was Shoshana. At first, she was confused by being in my home. She was shy and a bit scared of the city and all of its sights and sounds. Over time I started to see more of her tail wags, and her personality shone as bright as her beautiful eyes. She started sleeping in the silliest positions and showed us she felt safe and loved.

When she got adopted, I thought a lot about my life before her: hours of desk work without taking breaks, let alone walks. I didn’t know anything about dogs or dog training, and teaching her expanded my own learning, too. I began completing small, daily, health goals with her by my side. I played more, and laughed tons. Moreover, everything that she learned, I learned for her and for future fosters. So, in many ways, Shoshana rescued me.

To my first foster — thank you for having me 🥰” by @bronxtailfosters

We couldn’t end the day without a sleeping and cuddling montage. And a reminder: Declan has waited 16 months for his forever home.

He’s loving, expressive, and ready for the next chapter of his life.

Keeping the IG takeover going: TESTIMONIALS

We might be a little biased as Declan’s foster family… so today we’re letting other people who’ve spent time with him do the talking. 🐾

Kicking off the testimonials portion of Declan’s takeover with someone who’s gotten to know him well: John’s cousin @daveygetch. These are the honest impressions of people who’ve met Declan outside of our home.

Sometimes the best way to understand a dog is to hear from the people who’ve experienced his goofy personality, big heart, and enthusiasm firsthand.

Declan has been in foster for 477 days and is still waiting for his forever family.

Declan is a smart dog who loves learning.

His foster family works with him on training and enrichment every day to help him be ready for his future home, in case some or all of his training is useful in that setting. ☺️

Speaking of training, he’s also fully house-trained, doesn’t mark in house, and can stay home alone (and without separation anxiety).

Declan brings a lot to the table:

✔ enthusiasm
✔ curiosity
✔ occasional dramatic opinions

But mostly he just wants someone to share life with.

One thing about Declan: he takes his toy testing responsibilities very seriously.

Big personality included with adoption.
