I think potters should always pay attention (a lot of attention) to the foot of their pots. But mugs and cups specifically as they are visible while in use. I'm especially looking forward to how this foot design looks when fired in a wood kiln, where ash and flame will be swept past the scales while it is propped up off the shelf with wadding. by @brookhartceramic

I don't know what to do. I hate talking into the camera. Reels are so much work. Stories are cool, but they don't stick around. And pictures of pots are certainly not at the top of anyone's algorithm. So, I'm desperate and giving this a shot.

I don't like being put in a box. I believe my work is equally multifaceted. Well, it has the potential to be so.

As part of my practice I make a spring batch of vases because nothing feels warmer to me than entering the house and seeing that pop of spring love on the kitchen island; a splatter of ephemeral color by the bathroom sink; an explosion of summer joy on the dining table. I also make some planters because we live with plants and I'll be damned if I'm going to look at ugly pots all the time and you shouldn't have to either!

However, people like containers (see Container Store®️). The algorithm loves boxes. And so, I'll be making mugs again soon. Don't you worry your pretty little heads. by @brookhartceramic

Road tripping and backpacking from coast to home with my son for spring break - made possible by an engine transplant in my 40 year old 4runner by my friend Jon. Upon returning I found a few pieces in the kiln that finished firing after we left. It was inspiring and I should do that more often.

This was one of the best trips ever. I hardly consumed any media or used my phone for anything but pictures (and to secure an Rx for the poison oak). We slept outside every night except for a few that spent with old and dear friends. Highly rewarding.

Besides the price of gas, things on earth seemed to be carrying on and pretty damn beautiful - waves still crashing, flowers blooming, grass growing and trees falling, rocks and abalone shells being tumbled smooth by the tides, and the sun and moon still rising and setting.

It's easy for me to find crisis and concern with the outrage found daily in our hyper informed online world- problems unsolved and always expected tomorrow. But after connecting with friends and the earth closely I find so much gratitude in just being part of it all - life. It's a mess, a beautiful mess, and that's what got us here. by @brookhartceramic

I threw pots for seven years before I decided I would try "decorating" them - my aesthetic had long been based on a simple wabi sabi style acquired from early teachings and my work as a sushi chef. After moving back to Colorado I succumbed to the cliché and ubiquitous mountain motif. The initial foray was poor at best, but the act of mentally "taking a hike" was relaxing. My work has evolved significantly since then, and sometimes I wonder if continuing to carve mountains matches where I want it to go. I could take or leave them as part of what people see, but I think I would miss going for those hikes. by @brookhartceramic
